Bride claims pregnant bridesmaid owes her a £30K wedding redo after upstaging big day
A bride is claiming her pregnant bridesmaid owes her a £30K wedding redo after she ruined her first big day.
The newlywed said her friend had “upstaged” her on her big day, causing her to flee her reception in tears.
On Reddit, the bride explained that she and her husband had married a month and a half ago, with six people on each side of the bridal party, including the bridesmaid in question, a woman named Anna.
The newlywed said the wedding had taken three years to plan and prepare for.
She explained that when she first started the wedding prep Anna had been casually dating but that she’d gone on to marry the same man, four months before her own wedding, when she was two months pregnant.
The bride claimed that Anna was “hugely pregnant” on her wedding day, and “didn’t refrain from showing it off.”
“We’re both fairly young (25) and in my husband’s culture, getting pregnant before late 20s/30s, married or not, is basically a teenage pregnancy and drew ATTENTION,” she wrote.
“She also has a vibrant personality and has a way of eclipsing everyone around her.”

It wasn’t just the bridesmaid the woman poured scorn on either, she also turned on Anna’s husband who she claimed was “very tall and incredibly attractive, which drew a lot of attention.”
“All anyone spoke about or of was Anna’s pregnancy and her attractive husband. Even in the line, people were asking about that “electric woman” and of her pregnancy/marriage/life. When they got up to dance, all eyes were on them,” she added.
The woman went on to explain that she ended up leaving in tears midway through the reception and never attended the next morning’s brunch.
“I can’t even look at the pictures without crying and desperately want a do over,” she said.
She finished her post by saying she feels her friend “owes” her another wedding.
“I’m not a bridezilla, but this was beyond the pale. It felt like a celebration of Anna’s marriage. I’m sorry, but I put so much planning, effort, and money into this while someone that got pregnant without a thought and married spur of the moment reaped the benefits,” she wrote.
“Am I wrong?”
And people were quick to step in and offer their opinions with many criticising the newlywed for her reaction.
“It’s not Anna’s fault she decided to live her life,” one user wrote. “Your planning spanned three years without any consideration OR expectation of possible changes within the people involved. HELLO? Time doesn’t stand still just for you. That alone shows how self-centred you are. You are 100% a bridezilla.”
“This whole post reeks of jealousy and insecurity and is just sad all around,” another user commented.
“I’m not a Bridezilla but my bridesmaids happiness ruined my day and she owes me a wedding.”
“Getting angry at a bridesmaid for being pregnant, or gasp having an attractive husband and an outgoing personality is just ridiculous,” another user commented.
“And there is no way the poor bridesmaid should owe the cost of a wedding because of it.”
But others did try to see things from the bride’s point of view.
“I read that this is actually a semi-common thing with some brides,” one user explained.
“You spend a year or more (or THREE!) planning an event, for hours a day, and spend thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollars on the event. And then suddenly in a few hours the event is over and for many women it almost feels disappointing or underwhelming considering how much work went into planning it.
“I think that’s whats happening to OP. She is experiencing the wedding downer, and is misplacing her disappointment in all of that work essentially being done and over with now that the wedding is over, onto her friend, who really has done nothing wrong other than being a sparkling personality and visibly happily married and with child.”
It isn’t the first time that a pregnant bridesmaid has been accused of upstaging the bride at her wedding.
Earlier this year a bride divided the Internet after telling off her pregnant bridesmaid for holding her bump in her wedding pictures.

Not the first unreasonable bride
Earlier this month a furious bride claimed her guests gifts weren’t expensive enough to follow up her lavish wedding celebrations.
Then there was the bride who wanted to change some of her bridesmaids’ eye colours so they didn’t ‘clash’ with the colour scheme.
Next up was the couple asked wedding guests to take a fortnight off work for their destination wedding and save almost £3,000 to attend the three-day-long nuptials.
Back in December, a bride asked her wedding party to dress in a weight-based dress code with women above 160 pounds and men above 200 pounds requested to wear black or camouflage.
And let’s not forget the bride who divided the Internet by asking her guests to answer maths questions during their wedding celebrations.
