Inside Scott Mills’ romance with fiancé Sam Vaughan as he gets married in Spain

BBC Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills is busy making last-minute preparations for his wedding to fiancé Sam Vaughan in Spain on Saturday, 25 May.

The 51 year old DJ welcomed a host of famous faces to his afternoon radio show on Friday, including fellow broadcaster Jo Whiley and Rylan Clark, who all wished him well for his forthcoming nuptials.

Scott announced in 2021 that he was engaged to boyfriend of four years, Sam, and in an exclusive chat with OK! he recently revealed that he's "feeling the pressure" ahead of the big day, reported to be in Sitges, Spain.

"Planning is going really well, it's really near now," he said at the time. "It's a summer wedding. I think we're worked out all the logistics of everything and what's going to happen on the day."

As Scott jets off to Spain to say 'I do', we take a look at his relationship with fiancé Sam.

Rocky start to romance

Scott and fiancé Sam seem perfect for each other, which the radio star says he could see straight away - but unfortunately, Sam needed a little more convincing.

The BBC presenter had been travelling long distance to keep things going with radio brand manager Sam, who lived in Wales at the time, when they began dating in 2017.

"The more time we spent together, the more I could see we were right for each other. I just needed him to see that too," Scott told The Times.

"So when we had the conversation about taking it forward and he said 'I'm not ready', I was devastated. Being friends with someone you're in love with doesn't work. We didn't speak for six months."

Luckily, with both Scott and Sam's mums supporting them, Sam was convinced to give love another try and the couple haven't looked back.

Moving in together

When Scott and Sam got back together, they decided to jump in with both feet and moved in together - just three months before the Covid lockdown began.

Spending so much time together over the coming months obviously strengthened their relationship as the pair are stronger than ever after the intensity of lockdown.

The couple are also proud dog parents to an adorable cockapoo, Teddy, who they jointly run an Instagram account for.

Engagement joy

In October 2021, Scott shared some huge news with his fans as he tweeted: "After 4 years together I’m delighted to say we got engaged at the weekend. As Sam knows, I always said I didn’t think I would ever get married. But then I met you Sam.

"You make me laugh every single day, you support me in so many ways and I adore everything about you. As soon as I met you I knew this could be something special and it is (after a slow start).

"We’ve had some amazing times, and I’m bursting with happiness to know we will have so many more. I love you with all my heart."

Sam added on Instagram: "The beginning of forever. On Saturday the love of my life asked me to marry him and of course I said yes! I’ve had the most amazing four years and can’t wait to continue our journey!

"I never thought I’d find somebody who’s as obsessed with Sky News as me and I can’t wait to call him my husband!"

Wedding day

Scott's fans will know he's been on "countdown" to his big day with Sam, including detailing his nightmare week in the run-up to the big day.

But, posting a photo of himself and Sam laughing together over drinks at an outdoor table some weeks ago, Scott wrote on Instagram: "Successful weekend in Barcelona for food tasting and sorting out the wedding! Next time we visit will be for the big day!! Countdown has started."

His former Radio 1 co-host Chris Stark looks a definite for the guest list as he commented: "Can't wait!"
