Gavin and Stacey star spotted in BBC clip from 20 years ago - and she looks exactly the same
An old BBC clip has resurfaced from 20 years ago, and fans of Gavin and Stacey have spotted a very familiar face. After waiting five years to find out what happened between Nessa and Smithy, longtime fans were treated to a Christmas special to remember - and Smithy’s fiancée Sonia made a surprise appearance - much to the initial dismay of some viewers.
But while viewers may recognise actress Laura Aikman for her role as Sonia, who is eventually jilted by Smithy at the altar, Laura, 39, has a string of other TV credits under her belt. One of those in question is the children’s show Mysti which appeared on our screens from April 2004 to December 2005.
The CBBC show was broadcast on Saturday mornings and mixed drama with games and entertainment. The two series were hosted by Laura, who played Mysti, who was half-human half-fairy.

Following Laura’s appearance on Gavin and Stacey, a clip from Mysti has resurfaced on TikTok, and fans have expressed their shock. “I knew she was familiar when I saw her on Gavin and Stacey but couldn't place her,” wrote one.
“I thought this was just a fever dream because no one else ever knew what I was on about!,” another added. “THAT is where I know her from!!! This has been driving me crazy,” said a third.
Meanwhile, others commented on how little Laura had appeared to age in two decades. “She literally hasn’t aged,” commented one. “She really has not changed,” said another.
Prior to the release of the Christmas special, the plot of the grand finale was kept under wraps. In turn, Laura didn’t even tell her family about her return to the iconic sitcom and instead they found out while tuning in on Christmas Day.
In a heartwarming video shared online, the TV star showed her family’s reaction as they discovered her reprising her role. In the clip, Laura’s character Sonia could be seen with Smithy as they sorted out their wedding gift registry in a John Lewis.
As the scene unfolded on TV, Laura’s relatives were heard shouting “press pause”, while another exclaimed “you never told me”. In response Laura explained: “We never told anyone”.
Captioning the post, Laura joked: “the moment my family realise Sonia is ruining Christmas again” before adding that she takes non-disclosure agreements very seriously. Laura also shared a snap of a cast board featuring all the Gavin and Stacey characters, with a noticeable gap where her picture should have been.
