Gavin and Stacey fans are only just realising why Neil The Baby sings in the Christmas finale
Fans of Gavin and Stacey were left thrilled when the finale finally aired on screens on Christmas Day - with lots of questions from the previous special answered and *spoiler alert* the return of much-loved old characters, it is undoubtedly an episode that will go down in history. After audiences were forced to wait five years to discover whether Smithy said 'yes' or 'no' to Nessa when she popped the question, the new episode centred around Smithy's upcoming nuptials to Sonia. But one thing viewers were left puzzled about was a moment during their wedding ceremony.
As the entire cast - including Gavin and Stacey, Pam and Mick, Pete and Dawn, Gwen, Brynn and Jason, and even 'Dave Coaches' - came together for one final time, Oscar Hartland aka Neil the Baby, son of Smithy and Nessa, sang an emotional rendition of The Beatles' hit song, Blackbird. And, although it fitted perfectly with the episode, many were left asking why it was included.
But, upon searching Oscar's previous TV appearances, it turns out that the youngster actually appeared on hit TV singing competition The Voice Kids last year and has an incredible voice.

TV critic and broadcaster Scott Bryan told press earlier this week: "Baby Neil, who was actually one of the... babies in Gavin & Stacey when it first debuted, he was in The Voice, and they loved him in The Voice, so that’s why he sings in the film."
A clip from his time on the ITV series in 2023 saw Oscar telling viewers that he wants to be known for his talents. He said: "People know me for being Neil the Baby in Gavin & Stacey, which I absolutely love, but now I wanna be known for my music and singing."
He then opened up to The Sun about his time on the comeptition show, explaining: “It was weird being on the studio stage without the band, but I thought I’d just do what I do with the boys and hopefully get a result out of it. I went into it wanting Danny to turn, or Ronan. But it was really something.”
Nessa actress Ruth Jones also wished him good luck on the show, telling Oscar in a VT: "We knows what’s occurring, you’re on The Voice Kids. Don’t forget you takes after your mother when it comes to music.
She continued in character: "Go out there and you smash it kid alright? Crackin’."
