The death of Will Taylor during the Christmas Day episode of Emmerdale may have looked like a heart attack, but his daughter Dawn is convinced that he may have been murdered. Dawn, along with husband Billy, also think they know who the killer may be. While wife Kim may not have helped by hanging back rather than helping when Will collapsed, believing him to be faking, it is Joe Tate (played by Ned Porteous) who is under suspicion.

Billy first noticed Joe lurking around following Will’s death, and he shared his suspicions with Dawn, telling her: “I had a chat with Charity before about Joe and she’s told me everything. He’s a wrong-un Dawn. Some of the stuff he’s done is off the scale. He’s devious.”

He continued: “When he first came to the village he pretended to be somebody else. He gave Debbie a great job, told her he loved her and then he tried to destroy her just to get revenge on Charity. He blames Charity for his dad’s death. And you’re not going to believe this but Kim tried to kill him - that’s why he ran off.”

Billy then revealed that he thought Joe may have killed Will, as his relationship with Kim seemed suspicious following their past. “So why has she forgiven him right now? Something’s off, really off. I have never seen your dad and Kim happier. The vow renewal was beautiful, but he turns up and now our whole world is turned upside down. Are the police doing a post mortem? What are the chances of your dad having a heart attack just as he turns up?”

Viewers are also convinced that Joe could be involved, and may have given the medication he has been seen taking to Will to induce a heart attack. “Joe is so cold it’s creepy,” wrote one fan, while another added: “Either Joe killed Will or he is going to blackmail Kim at some point for not calling an ambulance sooner.”

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw has hinted that there is more to Joe’s return to the Dales than meets the eye. “We are thrilled to welcome Ned back to Village as the complex and captivating Joe Tate. From the moment Joe arrives on screen, it’s clear there’s trouble ahead but Joe’s hiding an even darker secret that could see 2025 start off with a huge bang.”

Actor Ned Porteous also chatted about what Joe’s return could mean. “I’m so excited to be returning to Emmerdale. There’s a lot of unfinished business for Joe, and it feels like the right time for him to make a comeback. Joe has always been a character with a dark side, but there could be something much bigger at play here.”
