Love Island fans spot the three-word statement that ‘proves’ Joey Essex is a ‘red flag’
Keen Love Island fans have labelled Joey Essex as a “red flag” after he repeated a three word statement that they claim has made him untrustworthy.
Joey shocked viewers when he went on a date with bombshell Jessy Potts despite appearing to be all loved-up with Grace Jackson.
He’d previously made statements on the show such as: “I can’t wait to get back in bed with Grace.” He even left his own bed with Samantha to go sleep in the hideaway with Grace when she was single.
However, despite appearing to be comfortable with Grace - even though she is technically in a couple with Omar - he then told Jessy that he was not entirely closed off.
This is par for the course on Love Island, but what got viewers riled up was when he pulled Grace for a chat after his date with Jessy and told her that “nothing has changed” between them.
Grace and viewers alike saw this statement as a walking red flag, because clearly a lot of things have changed. Prior to his date with Jessy, Grace had no competition for Joey and he had no feelings for anyone else. Since the date, Joey has felt split between two women. To Grace, a lot of things have changed.
What has outraged fans even more is that Joey has used that phrase before on the show. He told his former love interest Samantha the same three words right before dumping her for Grace.
Viewers let their feelings be known on X (formerly Twitter). One angry watcher said: “Joey not seeing how grace has a problem is a massive red flag. The veins were popping just 24 hours ago because Konnor showed interest.”
Another viewer said: “It’s so fascinating to me how these girls will see a giant red flag like how Joey is currently behaving and still encourage each other to fight for the man.”
One even went as far as to say: “I think Joey must doing this his whole life. Seeing a girl until a new girl comes along and then dumps the old girl. That’s why he has never settled. He is a man child that will never grow up and will never be happy.”
Joey is no stranger to rocky romance, as his love life has been splashed across TV and tabloids since rising to fame on TOWIE in 2010.
Joey was engaged to TOWIE co-star Sam Faiers in 2012, but the couple called off the wedding before they said “I do.” Since the failed engagement he has been tied to countless women including The Hills star Stephanie Pratt and his Dancing on Ice partner Vanessa Bauer. He even shared a kiss once with another famous Islander Maura Higgins.
