Gogglebox viewers beg for couple to be axed after 10 years as they insist 'enough already'
Gogglebox fans have taken to social media to express their frustration with the Channel 4 show as the latest series wraps up. The most recent episode saw the cast share their thoughts on popular shows like This Morning, Netflix's Bridgerton and The Piano.
However, viewers were not shy about voicing their displeasure with one particular duo, even calling for them to be removed from the show. Married couple Giles Wood and Mary Killen, who joined Gogglebox in 2015 for its fifth series and have lived in the thatched cottage in Wiltshire for over three decades, found themselves at the receiving end of this backlash.
One disgruntled fan took to Twitter to vent: "Please, please, please @C4Gogglebox get rid of Mary and Giles. They're infuriating. #gogglebox."
Another chimed in with: "Giles and Mary get on my nerves. #Gogglebox."
A third viewer added: "Ah starting the episode with the joyless Mary... #Gogglebox."
Yet another viewer expressed their annoyance by saying: "why didn't you just devote the whole first part of #Gogglebox to Mary & f**n Giles? ! Enough already, get rid of the annoying sods and give the others some decent air time instead of 0.1 seconds."
Despite the criticism, some viewers had a more positive view of the pair. One fan tweeted: "#Gogglebox Love Mary laughing!”
Another posted: "Bloody love Giles #gogglebox."
In other Gogglebox news, cast members Stephen and Daniel Lustig-Webb recently announced they are divorcing after six years of marriage. Although the fan favourites reunited recently which left fans overjoyed, the pair confirmed that they are going their separate ways.
Stephen, who has been a staple on the Channel 4 show for ten years, said: "It's with much sadness Daniel and I have decided to divorce. There is, and always will be, a lot of love there but we've unfortunately grown apart and made the decision to part ways."
In a heartfelt statement, Daniel confirmed: "We've made the decision with a very heavy heart to confirm our marriage has come to an end. I'm sure we will forever be friends."
Stephen and Daniel's split came months after they announced they would be leaving Gogglebox, following Stephen’s mother Pat, who appeared briefly on the show, dying in January this year.
Despite their split, the couple, who married after a two-year engagement, have said they hope to remain close friends.
The pair run a salon together called Lustig & Webb Hairdressing in the village of Hurstierpoint in Sussex. They tied the knot during a ceremony held at the Chateau de Lisse in Lot-et-Garonne, France in 2018.
