Gavin And Stacey icon's return confirmed for long-awaited Christmas special
More stars seem to have confirmed their return to Gavin and Stacey, for the final instalment this Christmas.
Show writers James Cordon and Ruth Jones revealed that they were back working on the iconic show, nearly five years after the last episode aired in 2019.
Actor James, who plays Smithy, and Ruth Jones, who plays Ness, announced that the finale would take place at Christmas this year.
Since the announcement, fans have wondered if much loved characters will return for on last episode. Now, another cast member, Robert Wilfort, has become the latest actor to confirm that he will be involved.
The 47-year-old, who plays Stacey's brother Jason, commented "here we go then" when sharing the black and white picture of James and Ruth holding the script.
Melanie Walters, who plays his on-screen widowed mother Gwen, replied: "Indeed son."
Fans commented: "Woohoo! Are you in it much? Will the truth come out about the fishing trip! Either way, I hope you have an absolute blast filming it!"
As another added: "We we finally know about what happened on the fishing trip?! And yet I think we’d should never find out."
It comes after Joanna Page, who plays Stacey, shared a statement with ITV's Loose Women that read: "I'm very excited for the return of the Gavin and Stacey and can't wait to come back on and tell you all about it".
Rob Brydon, who plays Stacey's uncle Bryn, also shared a picture of himself from an episode of the show. He captioned it: "Ted! Have you heard? There's going to be a new special!!!!
"So pleased that this has now been announced, can't wait to work with everyone again and see what's in store for Bryn."
As part of one of the plot lines, Rob Brydon's character Bryn and Robert Wilfor's character Jason are involved in a mystery fishing trip that they never speak about.
The fishing trip has been a running gag throughout the series and was the cause of Bryn and Jason's long-standing troubled relationship in the early episodes.
Commenting under Rob's post, a fan said : "We NEED to hear about the fishing trip!!" Another added: "What happened on the fishing trip!!!"
While a third said :"Fishing trip big reveal please" and a fourth commented: "I'm only hoping we find out what happened on the fishing trip! I'm far too excited about this! Step into Christmas! Step into Christmas! Mick and Pam are the best ever!"
