Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special: James Corden's dad's sweet message to Radio 2 makes Smithy star emotional
Gavin & Stacey star, James Corden, became emotional as he read out his dad's sweet message live on air. On Monday morning, December 23, the actor and comedian was joined by the comedy show's co-creator and friend Ruth Jones for a special edition of BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, titled 'A Gavin and Stacey Takeover!'.
The duo were joined by the show's beloved cast, including Mathew Horne, who plays Gavin, Joanna Page who plays Stacey and Rob Brydon who plays the iconic Uncle Bryn. During the programme, the cast spoke about filming the show, which has been on air and in our hearts since 2007, as well as reading out their fans messages sent during the radio show. During the show, James Corden, who plays Smithy in Gavin & Stacey, revealed that he had received a message from his dad, which had clearly moved Corden as he read out the text to his fellow cast members. On the radio, he said: "I've got a message from my dad".

He continued: "He's put this, he said - it's actually made me quite emotional, he said: 'Loving the show. Me and mum getting ready to go over and see grandma. Can you send out a shout out to all of the staff at Brentwood Care Centre? And also Leanne Cole, who is the lady who takes care of grandma'.
"I think it's probably good to mention all of the care workers that are looking after people on Christmas Day, and to everybody there, celebrating with my grandma. I hope you have a lovely day."
Gavin & Stacey: The Finale will be aired on December 25 with many fans champing at the bit to find out how the beloved series concludes. Last time we saw the Gavin & Stacey characters was five years ago, back in another Christmas Special, which aired in 2019, where Nessa got down on one knee and asked Smithy to marry her.
