Emmerdale horror as three favourites left fighting for their lives in massive stunt
Emmerdale are set to stage a massive stunt for January which will see three fan-favourite characters trapped underwater in a car after it plunges into a frozen lake. The terrifying scenes were reportedly filmed last week where three of the soap’s female cast, including Roxy Shahidi, will be stuck underwater and their characters fighting for their lives.
One soap insider told The Sun: “The bosses want viewers to have their hearts in their mouths when they see the car career off the road and into the water. It’s a nightmare scenario and everything was done to make sure this was a scene with real impact.”
The insider continued to add: “Hours were spent creating a layer of ice, then the actors spent hours out on the frozen field in the pitch black trying to do the storyline justice. It will be a real heartstopper moment when it airs in January.” Earlier this year, it was reported that actress Roxy, who plays Leyla Harding, had decided to bow out of the soap after 16 years.

A source revealed in October that: "Roxy has adored her time on the soap and has made so many happy memories since first joining. The cast have become like family to her and she has grown so much as an actress, but now feels like the perfect time to spread her wings and try something new. She is really excited about her meaty exit storyline, which will see her character Leyla die on screen. She'd rather go out in a blaze of glory and be remembered."
Leyla has a big presence in the Dales since her arrival in 2008; she's mum to Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and former other half to Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson). After her marriage fizzled out, fans were gripped by her powerful storyline, plunging into an addiction nightmare. Last year, Leyla was all over trying to derail dealer Callum's (played by Tom Ashley) dodgy dealings, only to find herself in a hostage crisis.
In the New Year, Leyla’s on-screen son Jacob will have his own special episode. Jacob, played by Joe-Warren, will be “pushed to his limits professionally and personally” as he deals with crises in an emergency department.
Joe admitted he was ‘hit’ with a lot of emotions when the producer first told him about the episode and that he felt that he needed to ‘get it right’. He confessed that the storyline ‘scared’ him ‘at first’, but the star went on to express that he felt ‘humoured’ to be trusted with it.
