Amanda Holden has opened up about a relatable marital row she had with her husband Chris Hughes this week.

Speaking on Heart Radio on Thursday, the 53-year-old said her husband "hit the roof" after realising she had put a particular clothing item of his in the washing machine.

Explaining the story, she began by lamenting about Chris constantly leaving his clothes on the floor.

After her co-star Jamie Theakston likened him to a teenager, she said: "Yes it is basically, another one."

"I just scoop them [his clothes] up, I'm sick of it, I just scooped them up and put them straight into the washing machine," Amanda added.

"He comes up and he goes absolutely nuts at me, 'Oh my God why can't I leave anything where I want, without you...' and I said, 'If it's on the floor it's going in the wash!'".

Amanda said she then tried to reassure Chris that his clothes had only been put on an express wash, but he still wasn't happy.

"Anyway, I left him to it and he literally hit the roof," she added.

"I was thinking Oh my God, I've put in some sort of Ralph Lauren [in the wash]. I've done one of his posh tops. I just scooped, it was all black and it all went in."

Amanda went on to tell listeners that her spouse loved to wear tops which featured heavy metal bands on them, and revealed he also loves puppets.

"This is a real insight," she joked. "If you know my husband Chris, don't text him that I'm talking about this now, because I'll get done when I get home."

Revealing the item he was precious about, she added: "Anyway hung up, in our room where the washing machine is, is a hoodie and on the back is a huge picture of Animal from The Muppets playing the drums, and that is the top he was worried I had ruined.

"I said to him, 'I thought it was going to be a super expensive Ralph Lauren or whatever', and he said, 'No, but it's brand new and I love Animal'."

Amanda often gives humorous insights into her 16-year marriage while on the airwaves, from getting a tattoo behind his back, to their unique way of playing darts.

The couple tied the knot back in 2008 and together they share two daughters; Lexi, 19, and Hollie, 13.

Previously diving into the secrets of their long-lasting marriage, the presenter said humour and challenging one another played huge factors.

She told OK! Magazine: "The main secret behind a successful marriage is to have a b****y good sense of humour!

"Plus, I really fancy Chris. We’ll be eating dinner in a restaurant, he’ll go to the loo, then I’ll look up and catch a glimpse of a man and think he’s fit! Then I’ll realise, 'Gosh, that’s my husband!'

"I still fancy him. Also, Chris challenges me and I challenge him – that’s another secret to a good marriage."
