This Morning halted for 'breaking news' as ITV star takes over

This Morning was abruptly halted during Thursday's (6 February) show due to a pressing 'breaking news' segment interrupting the episode.

Hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard were forced to stop presenting as the show cut to Jeff Brazier, who frequently hosts competition segments on the ITV daytime programme.

Jeff was chatting to a winner of one of This Morning's past competitions, which soon took priority over the main broadcast. Standing behind a desk emblazoned with posters for the show's Weekly Winners segment, Jeff told Ben and Cat to take a break from hosting so he could take over for a few minutes.

"I think you look a little bit thirsty. I'm going to send you off for a drink while we have some breaking news, everyone!" Jeff exclaimed, much to Ben and Cat's surprise.

As the duo walked away from Jeff, he continued: "I'm taking over because - we've referenced him already in the winners' circle - Craig from Tyne & Wear, are you there?!"

Jeff proceeded to chat with Craig via telephone, revealing he'd won £200,000 in a recent competition on This Morning. As Jeff quizzed Craig over what he'd done with his cash prize, Craig revealed he'd saved some money for his daughters' weddings, purchased a new van for work, and had an extension completed on his home.

The interruption to the main show was only brief, however, and Cat and Ben were soon back at the helm as they fronted the next segment of the daytime show.

The pair discussed fashion trends before moving on to take calls from the public regarding whether they let their pet dogs interfere in their romantic relationships.

Also, on Thursday's instalment of This Morning, an interview with Kate Cassidy, girlfriend of late One Direction star Liam Payne, aired, as she spoke out about her partner's tragic death for the very first time.

This Morning airs on weekdays on ITV1 from 10am
