Taskmaster spin-off series is coming very soon
If you can't get enough of the BAFTA-winning comedy entertainment show Taskmaster, then you're in for an absolute treat, as a brand new spin-off show has been created - and it's coming to screens very soon.
For the uninitiated - where have you been? - the show features five comedians taking on a series of bizarre and mind-boggling challenges week after week, which are judged and scored by the Taskmaster, Greg Davies. Greg is accompanied by his faithful sidekick, Alex Horne, who administers the tasks and makes sure rules are adhered to at all times.
The current series - which is the 18th season of the increasingly popular show - features comedians Andy Zaltzman, Babátúndé Aléshé, Emma Sidi, Jack Dee and Rosie Jones, all of whom are desperate to be crowned Taskmaster champion.
The beauty of the show lies in the tasks themselves - some test physical ability, while others are mental mind games; some expect you to do exactly what is written on the task, while others require some out-of-the-box thinking.
So popular has the show become, that a board game has been created, while Taskmaster: The Live Experience was unveiled to the public this year, meaning even us mere mortals can get a taste of the fun.
And now, a new spin-off show is coming to screens: Junior Taskmaster.
It's the first time the show has been adapted for children and will feature a brand new Taskmaster and assistant: BAFTA-nominated comedian, writer and actor Rose Matafeo picks up the baton as Taskmaster, while critically-acclaimed writer and performer Mike Wozniak will serve as her humble assistant.
Having previously competed in series 9 and 11 of Taskmaster themselves, Rose and Mike both have an idea of what the junior contestants will be going through.
Still featuring characteristically brain-teasing tasks that are "designed to encourage and inspire wile, wit, creativity, and athleticism," the format for Junior Taskmaster will be a little different. The series will feature 25 contestants in total, aged between 9 and 11, with five weekly heats of five contestants each. The 10 best players will then compete in two semi-finals, before a grand final with the top five contestants competing for the title of Junior Taskmaster champion.
There's also a brand new Junior Taskmaster house, which combines a shed, caravan and laboratory.
The first episode of Junior Taskmaster will air on Channel 4 on Friday 8 November at 8pm, and episodes will air weekly.
"To be appointed as Junior Taskmaster is one of the greatest honours of my already wildly successful career," says Rose. "I am greatly looking forward to the power going to my head."
"All I ever wanted to be when I grew up was a Little Alex Horne (or a regional manager for a major provider of motorway service stations) so this is literally a dream come true," says Mike. "I hereby vow to do my utmost to hold the office of Junior Taskmaster’s Assistant in the spirit of the original Little Alex Horne: with his courage, his grit and his dignity."
