Ruth Jones' net worth, husband and family member with huge legacy
Ruth Jones is known to millions of people as the co-writer and co-star of one of the most popular British sitcoms of recent years. Having written Gavin & Stacey alongside James Corden, Jones, from Porthcawl, has cemented her place in the hearts of the nation with her hilarious portrayal of Nessa.
But Gavin & Stacey was not her first appearance in a successful TV show. She was popular with fans of Fat Friends, Little Britain and Nighty Night before her own sitcom about the Shipmans and the Wests got off the ground. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.
She also enjoyed huge success with Sky’s Stella - which she co-wrote - a comedy-drama which ran for six series. She has also appeared in films including East is East and Nativity Rocks, and has penned three books, giving her an estimated net worth overall of around £3m - £4m. What she does after the final ever episode of Gavin & Stacey airs is not yet clear, but her career thus far suggests that whatever she focuses her attention on will no doubt become a success.

Away from the screen and the writers’ room, Jones, now 58, is happily married to TV and radio producer David Peet. The pair met in the 1990s while working on a TV show and were married in 1999. She is step-mother to his three children from a previous relationship. Jones doesn’t have any children herself, telling the Daily Mail: “It just didn’t happen. It wasn’t a decision. I don’t have a burning desire to have babies. I think it’s heartbreaking if you do and you find out you can’t have them. I love being a stepmum - all the joys of motherhood without the pain of childbirth.”
She also told the Scotsman newspaper: “You take things as they come. There wasn’t a moment when I thought: ‘I’ve become a stepmum now.’ We never had any difficulty with teenage angst, and now I’m looking forward to becoming a step-grandmother at some point.”
While Jones never met either of her grandfathers, she was emotional when she discovered on BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are? that one of them - Henry Richard Jones - actually helped to shape the NHS. During filming for the programme, Jones found out that her grandfather’s work led him to lobby the then Minister of Health, Aneurin Bevan, the man who became known as the founding father of the health service in the UK.
“The fact that my grandfather was so involved was quite an achievement really,” she said. "What I do feel excited about, in a slightly shallow way, is that my grandfather knew Aneurin Bevan - such an influential figure in our history. Good on you, grandfather. You gave back to life and you helped a lot of people. And that’s pretty good going, I think.”
