Steph McGovern reveals BBC Breakfast blunder as guest's X-rated item makes cameo
Steph McGovern hilariously reminisced about a major BBC Breakfast gaffe when a guest's sex toy made an unexpected appearance. The Channel 4 presenter, who previously appeared on the BBC morning programme as the lead business correspondent from 2010, shared a particularly memorable and risque interview mishap.
Chatting on the Not Bad For A Monday podcast, Steph spilled the beans to her childhood pal Claire and producer Geoff about some of the more cringe-worthy virtual interviews she's experienced. The mum-of-one couldn't resist sharing a story about a Skype call that went south fast.
She recounted with amusement: "You know this idea of setting up an area to look good. So obviously on telly there's a lot of Skyping going on, but what's funnier is that people don't realise what's behind them!
"We had a classic on Breakfast where on the fridge now we can discuss why it was on the fridge, was a massive dildo." Her mates were in disbelief, gasping: "What?" while she burst into laughter, reports the Daily Star.
Continuing the tale, she said: "This person was doing a really serious interview but all anybody was doing is, 'Is that a dildo?' and, 'Oh my God, can someone zoom in on that shot, zoom in! ' but there's nothing you can do with people's camera positions, that's it."
Geoff, ever curious, questioned how such an item would find its way into a kitchen scene, prompting Steph to explain: "Well, it was on top, it was resting on top. My biggest question is why? Is someone using it as a stirrer for cooking? I don't know," she chuckled.
This comes after Steph confirmed her return to telly, after a brief hiatus following the conclusion of her lunchtime show, 'Steph's Packed Lunch'. The beloved TV host found herself teary-eyed when her daytime stint on Channel 4 ended last December.
However, she seems to be back and better than ever as she unveiled a glimpse of the set from the iconic comedy quiz show 'Have I Got News For You' on her social media. In a light-hearted moment en route to the show, she shared a car selfie with her stylist, jesting: "'Let's get a nice picture of us on our way to Have I Got News For You', she says..."
Never one to shy away from a behind-the-scenes peek, she also shared an image of herself prepping in the makeup chair before filming commenced. Fans quickly flocked to express their excitement over her latest TV venture.
Broadcasting star Nikki Fox wrote: "HOT! Love you both", while another fan enthused: "Looking fab Steph. Let us know when the episode is on. I love when you're on HIGNFY."
Another follower chimed in, suggesting: "I think you should be the permanent host it's always a good one when you're on!"
The end of 'Steph's Packed Lunch' marked a controversial moment in Channel 4's history, as a series of cutting choices were made in an attempt to square off against streaming giants like Netflix and Apple TV.
