Sheridan Smith smooches David Walliams as he takes her on early birthday outing with family

David Walliams was ever the gentleman as he took close friend Sheridan Smith out for a meal this weekend as an early birthday celebration, with the actress set to turn 43 next month.

The pair were joined by their families as they enjoyed a meal at London's celeb hotspot Claridges Hotel, sharing a carousel of pictures from the evening to their respective social medias. In one snap, Sheridan planted a kiss on David's cheek as they both held onto a plate which had 'Happy Birthday Sheridan' written in dessert sauce.

It was all smiles for the group as they beamed for a number of other pictures, with David - who has been replaced by Bruno Tonioli on the currently airing series of Britain's Got Talent - donning a cream suit for the occasion while Sheridan went casual in black top and denim jeans.

Sharing the post to Instagram, David, 52, wrote: "Happy Birthday (one month early) @sheridansmithster & thank you @claridgeshotel". Sheridan reshared David's post with the same caption, adding: "The best afternoon with our families! Thank you".

David and Sheridan have been close friends for years and often work together when it comes to TV projects, with David even joking previously that the pair will one day get married.

"We do talk about getting married when we’re older. When we’ve exhausted all other opportunities. Do you know what I mean? If we’re still single, aged 90, we will get married to each other," said David during an appearance on Lorraine.

Meanwhile, Sheridan could be set to reunite with former flame James Corden, following the news that Gavin and Stacey is set to return this Christmas. Following the news of the show's return, insiders have claimed that Sheridan is on the verge of signing a deal to star in the final episode, The narrative that James and co-writer Ruth Jones have crafted for the grand finale reportedly includes Sheridan's character Ruth 'Rudi' Smith.

Despite rumours suggesting otherwise, sources close to the BBC show revealed that informal chats with the actress have already kicked off. This TV deal comes as a shocker to fans, especially since Sheridan's West End stage show Opening Night was abruptly halted two months early, and she was notably absent from the 2019 Christmas Special.

An insider spilled: "The script for Gavin & Stacey: The Finale includes all of the show’s major players - including Smithy’s sister Rudi. Nothing has been signed and conversations are still very much ongoing - especially as the filming date has not been set.

"But all of the stops are being pulled out to make sure the whole cast are there, and in the coming weeks the production team hope to pin down everyone’s availability. Sheridan and James are still friendly - they recently bumped into each other at the Variety Club Awards and got on really well. So the hope is that she will be able to be part of it.

The source continued: "She did not appear in the Christmas Special because her character was not part of that storyline, but it has been a different story this time around. Everyone is very excited about this episode - it is going to be a phenomenal last hurrah for the series, which is exactly what it deserves."
