Recent bob hair celebrity convert Selena Gomez – who joins a starry cohort of bob fans such as Kendall Jenner, Michelle Yeoh and Kelly Rowland – has been experimenting with her own fresh chop.

At the ELLE US Women in Hollywood event last night, Gomez debuted an impeccably styled, ultra glossy bob. It was crafted by hairstylist Renato Campora, the man behind Michelle Yeoh’s sophisticated ’do last week. Campora gave Gomez’s jet black tresses a gentle wavy silhouette that frames her face and curves inwards. It’s a subtle nod to the Upper East Side, high society aesthetic of the late sixties, as embodied by Chloë Sevigny who plays C.Z Guest in the Feud: Capote Vs The Swans series. Paired with soft washes of colour on the eyes and cheeks by make-up artist Hung Vanngo, the vibe felt grown-up, polished, and expensive.
Such shiny hair requires a good treatment even before the blow-dry, and clever use of hair finishing products. Speaking previously to ELLE UK, hair expert at Hershesons, John Alfred says: ‘Adding extra shine can be done by sealing the cuticle with an in-salon acidic gloss treatment; these treatments do not cause any damage and can be done once a month.’
Before applying heat, make sure to prep the hair with enough moisture for your hair type; those with finer strands will require a lighter formula than those with coarser locks. ‘A super sleek blow-dry begins with hydration, heat protection and anti-frizz benefits,’ shares hairstylist Tom Smith, who's loyal to Olaplex No.5 Leave-In, layered with Olaplex No.6. A finishing mist such as Color Wow Extra Mist-ical Shine Spray will deliver a glass-like effect.
