Eamonn Holmes was "terrified" of Ruth Langsford during their relationship, according to their mutual pal Liz Taylor. Earlier this month, the television duo announced they had separated after 14 years of marriage in a split that shocked the nation.

Ruth is yet to address the break up in her own words, but has been candid about their marriage over the years including when she spoke to Liz on her podcast, Events That Made Me.

During their chat, the mother-of-one shared details about how she and Eamonn first met through the world of television, in which they both got off to "a rocky start".

The presenter said they bonded over their respective ups and downs in the industry – from losing jobs to going freelance – which eventually led to them dating. The pair tied the knot back in 2010 and welcomed their only son together, Jack, 22, two years later.

Reflecting on the earlier stages of their career and relationship, Ruth shared in the 2020 chat: "We have a healthy respect with what we do. I do smile sometimes because I think there were people, a lot in regional TV, who thought I got onto TV when I started seeing Eamonn, and that's why I'm here."

Chiming in, Liz added: "What makes me laugh is he's b****y terrified of you and that really makes me laugh," which prompted Ruth to chuckle, seemingly in agreement. In 2019, the pair shared what they believe keeps their marriage alive on the podcast How To Stay Married, reports the Express.

Eamonn added: "The secret is compromise, the secret is consideration and lots of conjugals."

Ruth continued: "I would say laughter is what keeps us together. Eamonn's very good actually. We have a very equal relationship, it's very equal in our marriage. People will say, 'who wears the trousers? ' Well, nobody. You find your way, he's not the boss and I'm not the boss in modern relationships that's probably how it should be."

Speculation about trouble in paradise began in April when fans noticed the couple hadn't been seen together for weeks. However, on May 25, a spokesperson confirmed to The Sun on Sunday that Eamonn and Ruth's marriage had come to an end and they were getting divorced.

Sources claim the two had been living separate lives before announcing their split.

An insider revealed to the publication: "Eamonn and Ruth's relationship changed when they left This Morning. They started moving in different directions in their careers and their priorities started to change."

The same source claimed that Eamonn was keen on returning to Belfast, while Ruth had no plans to relocate. "As her ITV career continued, Eamonn went down another path and they became ships in the night," they added.

Another source suggested that despite their split, the pair plan to remain friends, with Ruth continuing to support Eamonn through his health struggles.
