Make pizza healthy with surprising simple ingredient swap that adds protein

A food content creator shared her reaction to the viral cottage cheese pizza, which she dubbed a good alternative for anyone in a caloric deficit. Jess Thomson, who goes by @jessthomofit on TikTok, demonstrated her take on the viral cottage cheese pizza.

This recipe substitutes a traditional pizza dough for one made with cottage cheese. The addition of cottage cheese is to help amp up the protein levels.

So if you're on a health kick and you're craving a pizza, this might be the recipe for you. Jess captioned her video: “Cottage cheese really IS that girl. Really easy, high protein recipe and a must SAVE.”

Essentially, you mix cottage cheese, plain flour and eggs into a dough, before baking without any added toppings. Once completed, Jess said: “Okay this is actually really good… I’m not gonna tell you that this has the exact same texture as pizza because that would be lying, and lying isn’t good.

“But if you’re in a calorie deficit, you’re craving a pizza, you need something that’s really high in protein, then I think this is a pretty good substitute. It’s mostly whole foods and it’s got almost 60 grams of protein in one serving.”

Jess’ video has already been viewed over 20,000 times, racking up 510 likes and 24 comments. Some foodies were stunned by the surprising pizza base ingredient, Amy said: “What’s the texture like and does it have a weird cottage cheese taste. I like it in eggs but it makes me sooooo nervous.”

Gabrielle said: “Ooo! I mix fat free green yog and flour to make a dough base! Works so well!” Another said: “This looks amazing,” while Christine added: “I’d have to blend the cottage cheese.”

Cottage Cheese Pizza

Ingredients

  • 241g low fat cottage cheese

  • Two eggs

  • 31g plain flour

  • 4g garlic granules

  • 45g pizza sauce

  • 15g chorizo slices

  • 44g reduced fat mozzarella

  • 20g parmesan

Method

Preheat your oven to 180C. Mix the seasoning, cottage cheese, eggs and flour together

Spread the mixture into a thin circle on a large lined baking tray. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes until brown.

Add your toppings and cook for another seven to ten minutes. Once cooked, tuck in and enjoy.
