The Royal Family 'doesn't need to respond' to rumoured rifts, says PR expert
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s move out of Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor has sparked a number of rumours about their relationship with current neighbours William and Kate.
William, 36, and Harry, 34, have always been incredibly close. But, The Sun, who broke the story about their new residence, reports “there has been a bit of tension between the brothers.”
Sources also told Vanity Fair that there had reportedly been a fall out between the pair last Christmas, with Harry wanting William to make more effort with Meghan.
While The Telegraph has suggested there is a ‘feud’ between sister-in-laws Meghan and Kate, with sources saying that the Duchess of Cambridge ‘was left in tears following a bridesmaids dress fitting for Princess Charlotte.’
After an exceptionally busy year for the Royal Family, with two weddings, a new baby and another on the way, could this prove to be a bit of a PR nightmare for the palace?
PR expert Nick Ede tells Yahoo UK: “The palace doesn’t need to respond to any type of rumour like this – the relationships between the families is, of course, fine.
“And the reason for the shift is for practical reasons – Meghan and Harry need somewhere to stay that’s larger for their new family and potentially Meghan’s mum Doria too.”
Kensington Palace rarely comment on rumours or make statements about private matters.
In the wake of all the drama surrounding Meghan’s estranged family, with her father Thomas and half sister Samantha giving a number of TV interviews, they have remained firmly tight-lipped.
The exception to this being Prince Harry’s statement urging the media to respect his and Meghan’s privacy (who was then his girlfriend) and another confirming that her father would not be attending their wedding.
While they have not commented on the move or the rumours, Kensington Palace said that “Windsor is a very special place for Their Royal Highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate.”
Ede thinks that we will see the Fab Four, as they’ve been dubbed by the media, happily reunited for the Christmas day church service at Sandringham.
They were last seen altogether for the Remembrance Sunday services earlier this month.
Royal biographer Duncan Larcombe thinks their move is simply a logistical matter. The couple’s existing home may well be too small for them, especially given pregnant Meghan is due to give birth next spring.
He told Yahoo UK: “Harry and William are very close, so it won’t be a decision that will have been taken lightly.
“What has happened is probably to do with the lack of availability of a larger apartment in Kensington Palace.
“The property in Windsor is the next best thing.”
