The Nevermets is gripping TV viewers, following the ups and downs of the love lives of five couples who've only ever met online... until now.

The six-part Channel 4 series has introduced us to people like British catering assistant Sarah, 38, who's been living with a 27 year old Filipino virtual assistant called Jgoy.

And floppy-fringed 17 year old A-level student Jay, who was only 15 when he met now-26 year old Veena in a Game Of Thrones chatroom but who travelled around 5,000 miles to meet her at home in India.

Many viewers initially slammed the couple suggesting things wouldn't work out for the pair, due to the distance and the age gap in the relationship. Whether things work out for them is yet to be revealed.

Also on the show is charity founder Dumebi, 25, from London and luxury car rental broker Mazi, 27 who lives in Dubai.

Dumebi first saw Mazi in 2019 in a video on Instagram and contacted him. Although Mazi didn't see her message for a month, he eventually called her, but his ego took a hit when she was too busy to chat. They eventually hooked up and dated for 18 months, but only online.

Before the show, Dumebi travelled to Dubai to meet Mazi, but he failed to turn up at all. Yet she tried again, and finally got to see him in person – but was repeatedly let down but his lateness.

Frustrated, Dumebi thought about ending things and coming home, but gave Mazi one last chance, as the pair spent a fun-filled day together.

Finally, though, his attitude became too much of her and she decided to give him the push. Sitting down with Mazi for an honest chat, Dumebi told him: "I feel like we're in a very good friendship," adding, "I'm not going to put my life on hold, I'm still going to be open to new people and that. I feel like that's it for now."

Mazi responded: "Okay, I get that," and TV viewers delighted she'd finally dumped him.

"I just watched episode 4 and was really happy to see Dumebi give Mazi the heave-ho," said one fan of The Nevermets on Mumsnet. "I think she maybe felt she had to play along for the week, since C4 had paid for it, but it seems she made up her mind after he was late the first day."

A second simply commented: "Dumebi did right," while a third offered their opinion of the whole series, saying: "They are all living in cloud cuckoo land. None of them can marry or live together because none of them can secure the necessary visas. How stupid to spend 3 years in a 'relationship' without even looking into this. All of these people are complete fantasists."

The Nevermets continues on Friday, 14 June at 10pm on Channel 4
