Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have experienced "the biggest plummet in popularity in history" since stepping down as working royals in January 2020. Going from being the Royal Family's main attraction to selling jam in the US, according to Royal expert Hilary Fordwich.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, the US-based commentator suggested that the Sussexes' controversial exit from the Royal Family was due to 'Meghan not wanting to be number two to Kate.'

She stated: "It is the biggest plummet in popularity in history. To have gone from the number one most popular royals after the Queen, Harry has now gone to just above Prince Andrew."

They added: "That plummeting was by choice. It all stems from Meghan not wanting to be number two to Kate. Better to have been number two than nothing." In March, Meghan Markle launched her new lifestyle brand called American Riviera Orchard.

Little information has been released about American Riviera Orchard but a trademark application filed on February 2 this year shows the company wishes to offer downloadable and printed recipe books, table wear, textiles, jams and marmalades.

Talking about Meghan's new business venture, the expert continued: " "Now she is releasing jam while Kate is at Trooping the Colour." A YouGov poll released in April revealed that Meghan was the second most unpopular royal, with only Andrew ranking lower.

Andrew was viewed negatively by 86 percent of respondents, compared to 64 percent for Meghan, reports the Express. Harry didn't fare much better, with 61 percent expressing a negative view of him.

Recent reports suggest that Harry and Meghan could be contemplating a return to the UK, with Harry reportedly missing his old Royal life.

However, Richard Eden, of the Daily Mail, has warned that Harry and Meghan are now "not wanted" by the Royal Family. He commented: "We saw that at Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 where it was just Harry and his brother, Camilla and Charles and of course, the queen."

"Charles thought that when Harry had a family, they would be carrying out engagements and sharing those duties with William so, I think time is running out.

"If Harry wants to come back at any stage, he needs to do it while his father is still King. "I really reckon that when Prince William is King, I can't see him letting Harry come back and have a role again."
