We love it when two of our favourite people and brands collide, which is exactly what happened when Katie Holmes stepped out in New York City yesterday (Tuesday 11 June) wearing a ME+EM dress.

Known not only for her acting credentials but also her effortlessly chic style, Katie is the perfect match for the affordable luxury British label, which counts Margot Robbie, Emily Blunt and the Princess of Wales among its many celebrity fans.

The dress she was seen in is the Cotton Bouclé Cut-Out Maxi Dress, £250, which is perfect for this lacklustre 'summer' weather we're currently experiencing in the UK, and still available to buy.

It's a navy and white knitted dress, but its racer neckline and subtle cut-out detailing give it transeasonal appeal. Until the sun comes out to play, we'll be throwing on a cream waistcoat or blazer and adding matching sandals – an easy stylish outfit for the office, smart casual events, holidays and more.

Note also that Katie's choice of ME+EM dress plays straight into this summer's key tenniscore trend with its sporty cut, contrasting stripes and flattering fit-and-flare skirt. If you welcome a bit of edge, clock the cool raw hem too.

Katie styled hers solely with girly white Mary Jane flats (from her new collab with A.P.C.), wearing her straight brunette hair down with a classic red lip for a punchy pop of colour.

There's a reason why ME+EM is one of the first brands we turn to for quality capsule wardrobe heroes that will never date – think a great-fitting pair of jeans, a beautiful wedding guest dress or sharp tailoring for an important meeting. So, we love that Katie has discovered one of our finest exports and hope to see her in more ME+EM soon.

If you can't get enough of Katie's looks, other stand-out ensembles we've loved from her this season include her ultimate summer dressing hack of wearing a black shirt dress as a lightweight coat; her winning trench + striped shirt + straight-leg jeans + loafers combo (find out how to copy it here); and an on-trend double denim ensemble that she added a '70s spin to with flared jeans.
