BBC Radio 2's Michael Ball blasted for 'destroying' Susan Boyle during duet sung together

Michael Ball has had an impressive career spanning nearly 40 years, having first shot to fame when he made his debut on the West End stage in Les Miserables, back in 1985.

Since then the 61 year old star has gone on to launch an impressive recording career, appear in many more musicals including Hairspray, Chess and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, launch multiple tours both on his own and with Alfie Boe, and become a regular BBC Radio 2 presenter. He even appeared briefly in Coronation Street back in 1985.

But even though Michael has reached 'national treasure' status, viewers were livid when he duetted with Susan Boyle back in 2019.

Susan made a surprise return to Britain's Got Talent, but fans were left disappointed by her duet with Michael. A decade after she was named the runner-up in 2009, Susan shared the stage with the singer to perform A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman.

The duo joined forces to celebrate Susan's ten-year career and record the track, but viewers criticised their live performance, suggesting they hadn't rehearsed together beforehand.

One disgruntled Twitter user wrote: "Watching BGT @SusanBoyle is amazing! ! No idea what key @mrmichaelball thinks that song was played in! He actually ruined that performance!"

Another commented: "Have @mrmichaelball and @SusanBoyle ever rehearsed together? Awful. They still got a standing ovation from the sycophantic judges," reports the Mirror.

"@BGT what a shame @mrmichaelball didn't compliment your performance @SusanBoyle! ! No need for a duet here Michael! All for people taking an opportunity - but that was shamelessly woeful," one viewer vented.

"Why do Susan Boyle and Michael Ball sound like they didn't rehearse? They look so uncomfortable there. Not a good song choice for their voice...painful to listen to," another added.

One viewer stated: "Susan Boyle and Michael Ball have just absolutely destroyed that song."

Earlier in the series, Susan had appeared during the audition rounds to recreate her original debut on the talent show.

The 58 year old Scottish singer left the BGT judges gobsmacked when she belted out I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables back in 2009.

Michael, who managed to lose an impressive amount of weight with two diet changes, recently took over the much-loved Love Songs show on BBC Radio 2, following Steve Wright's tragic death earlier this year.

Michael quit his mid-morning show on the station to host the two-hour-long Love Songs With Michael Ball. The slot he vacated was filled by TV presenter Paddy McGuinness.
