Emmerdale's Charles Anderson, portrayed by Kevin Mathurin, is left heartbroken following the sudden death of his son. Official spoilers for the ITV soap reveal that things take a turn for the worse for the village vicar.

In upcoming scenes, Caleb Milligan (Will Ash) learns that Ethan Anderson's (Emile John) hit-and-run case will be dropped. This news doesn't sit well with Charles as Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) attempts to soothe him.

Later, Charles is seen drowning his sorrows in the pub as Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) informs Caleb that the vicar probably doesn't want to return home as it reminds him of Ethan. Feeling sympathetic, Caleb decides to escort Charles back home, much to Ruby Milligan's (Beth Cordingly) surprise.

The next morning, Charles wakes up and expresses his gratitude to Caleb for his kindness. While sipping some coffee he accidentally spills it on the rug, and while cleaning up the mess, Charles stumbles upon an intriguing invoice and takes it.

Later in the day, Charles offers to drive Caleb into Hotten. Despite his initial hesitation, he decides to accept the offer against his better judgment, reports the Express.

While on the road, Caleb is puzzled when Charles becomes overwhelmed with emotion and abruptly pulls over into a lay-by and exits the car.

Worried, Caleb follows Charles into the woods as the vicar begins to reminisce about Ethan.

Doing his best to console the grieving father, Charles starts to question the decision to drop the hit-and-run case.

However, the atmosphere shifts as Charles' eyebrows furrow and Caleb suddenly finds himself under the firing line for Ethan's tragic passing.

Recognising things have taken a serious turn, Caleb attempts to head back to his car only to find an increasingly irate Charles blocking his path.

As Charles brings out the invoice he discovered in his home earlier, it seems to suggest that Caleb might have been involved in the hit-and-run accident.

Caught in the thick of the situation, how will Caleb handle the vicar's escalating wrath and push for answers?

Unbeknownst to Charles, it was Ruby who was actually responsible for knocking down his son in an act of vengeance against Ethan.

Upset with Ethan for leaving her son Nicky (played by Lewis Cope) for dead which resulted in him falling into a coma, Ruby couldn't contain her anger.

Ethan later confessed to Ruby that he was aware she was the one who hit him but asserted they were now "square" because he didn't tip off the police about her.

Nonetheless, she ominously told him that the score wasn't even as her son still lay in hospital - she warned him that if her son didn't make it, she'd not only knock him down again but this time, he wouldn't be getting up.

Luckily, Nicky recovered but Ethan tragically succumbed to a brain aneurysm mimicking the circumstances of his grandfather Victor Anderson's (portrayed by Eddie Osei) demise.

But if Charles discovers the real circumstances behind the hit and run, will he hold them accountable for his son's untimely death?
