Gogglebox's Stephen Webb defended after backlash to 'disrespectful' snap

Gogglebox star Stephen Webb has been subject to backlash for posting a 'disrespectful' photo with an unknown man just days after his split from husband Daniel was revealed, but fans have jumped to his defence.

Last week, it was revealed that the couple, who have been married for six years, have filed for divorce. And as TV favourite Stephen shared a snap on his social media of himself and a pal enjoying drinks at a Notting Hill pub this week, this kicked off criticism among some followers who accused him of "moving on" too speedily after his break up..

This came hot on the heels of Stephen, who left Gogglebox in September, revealing he was looking forward to meeting an 'amazing person' at the airport whom he hadn't encountered in 15 years. One online commenter said: "Moved on already?"

Another suggested: "Maybe best to keep a low profile for a while and be a bit more respectful? " but Stephen's fans were quick to back him up. One defender posted: "None of you know exactly how long ago their marriage broke up, none of you know him on a personal level, so stop acting like you do. It may be a friend, a partner or other, who cares it's none of our business."

Another supporter stepped in with: "Cut the guy some slack! ! ! He's allowed to go out and enjoy himself be it a date or a meet up with a friend. Mind your own beeswax."

Stephen and Daniel revealed their marriage is over with separate statements released to The Sun. Stephen expressed: "It's with much sadness Daniel and I have decided to divorce. There is, and always will be, a lot of love there but we've unfortunately grown apart and made the decision to part ways."

Daniel added his own sentiment: "We've made the decision with a very heavy heart to confirm our marriage has come to an end. I'm sure we will forever be friends."

The former couple, who got engaged in 2016 and tied the knot in 2018 during a ceremony held at the Chateau de Lisse in Lot-et-Garonne, France, own a hair salon together.

Aiming to prove their commitment to sustaining their friendship after the split, the couple didn't miss a beat, spending the day in Brighton together right after dropping the news, even enjoying a tandem bike ride along the seaside promenade.

Daniel captioned the fun clip: "Riding tandem straight out of this marriage #beryl #bff."
