20 years have passed since Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s love story first started. Having first met in 2002, the pair were together for two years – during which they got engaged – before calling time on their relationship in 2004.

However, the pair rekindled their romance in 2021 and in September of that year JLo, 54, and Ben, 51, made their red carpet debut at the Venice Film Festival. Having rekindled their romance, the duo got engaged for a second time in April 2022 and in July 2022 the Love Don’t Cost A Thing singer revealed that they’d tied the knot in Las Vegas.

Announcing the news in her On The JLo newsletter, JLo gave a glimpse inside the special occasion and she shared snaps from the big day. “We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient” she wrote.

However, the couple’s relationship has been hit by divorce rumours amid allegations in In Touch Weekly that “they just couldn’t make it work”, with a source claiming that the pair are “headed for a divorce”.

The source added: “Ben already moved out and they’ll likely have to sell the dream house they spent two years searching for. They’ll never stop loving each other, but she can’t control him, and he can’t change her. There’s no way it could have lasted.”

The publication also alleges that a problem in the pair’s relationship has been JLo and Ben’s attitude towards the limelight, with Jennifer embracing the spotlight and Ben being more reserved.

Speaking in JLo’s documentary ,The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Ben explained: “Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media.’ Then I sort of realised it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of, like, you’re going to marry a boat captain and you go, ‘Well, I don’t want the water.’ We’re trying to learn to compromise.”

The allegations come after Jennifer was seen arriving at a dance studio in Los Angeles alongside her crew on Wednesday, 15 May, though Ben was nowhere to be seen.

Prior to that, on Monday, 6 May, the singer attended the Met Gala alone as she completed her co-chairing duties at the event while Ben is said to have been busy filming The Accountant 2 at the time.

In 2023 the pair’s relationship also came under the spotlight when they attended the Grammy Awards together and a clip of them sitting together went viral, leading some social media users to comment on how “bored” actor Ben seemed.

However, earlier this year, in January 2024, JLo defended her marriage after a reporter at the 81st Golden Globes asked her “So how do you know your last wedding is it?” during a red carpet interview.

In response, she explained: “Because when they say, 'You know,' you know.” She added: “And other times when you didn't know, you also didn't know,” before confessing that she always enters a relationship with “the best of intentions.”
