Gogglebox's Malones reveal how long each episode takes to film – and it's a wonder they can sit still on the sofa

Gogglebox fan favourites the Malone family caught up exclusively with OK! at the Tric Awards, and spilled all on what it’s like filming for the hit show.

Tom, Julie and Shaun attended the TRIC Awards, which OK! were the official media partner for, on Tuesday 25 June, and answered the question on every fans’ mind. What does a typical day filming look like, and how long are star’s actually glued to their sofas for?

“About six hours,” Julie told us. “Yeah, you have a set up time, and a filming time, it’s all pretty relaxed and we do what we do, but in total, about 8-10 hours I’d say is it?” added dad Tom.

“I’d say about 8 max,” Tom said, as they both agreed.

The family revealed that the crew are very accommodating, and always fit it around them. “We sometimes do two days a week.”

“The crew and everybody, they’re all brilliant,” Julie said as she compared filming to “having a party in your house every weekend.”

The family are a favourite for their jokes, slip ups (and dogs) but they do sometimes cringe when they watch it back.

“I make silly comments without thinking,” mum Julie laughed. “I remember once, we were watching something about animals, and at the time my brother was vegan,” youngest son Shaun chimed in. “And I meant to say, times like this I understand why Tom’s vegan, but I accidentally said a virgin and he wasn’t happy with me!”

Fans can look forward to many more cringeworthy moments from the Malones as whilst speaking on their future plans, Julie announced they’re hopefully carrying on with the Channel 4 show. However, Shaun has his eyes on bigger things as he joked: “I do think I’d make a good James Bond though.”

It looks like dad Tom also has his eyes set on a bigger price as Julie joked: “Tom wants to do Next Top Model.”

The Malones made their debut on the hit Channel 4 show in 2014, during series 4. They’ve been entertaining fans ever since from the comfort of their living room in Manchester.

Although we’ve been introduced to dad Tom, mum Julie, and sons Tom Jnr and Shaun, the Malone’s also have brother Lee and sister Vanessa who chose to stay off the screen.

Tom Jnr used to be a regular in the show, although announced his departure in February 2021. At the time, he wrote, via Instagram: "So after 6 and a half years it’s finally time to put down the remote, and to say goodbye to Gogglebox," followed by a TV emoji.

He added: "I’ve loved every minute and I’m eternally grateful to @channel4 and @studiolambert for allowing me to be a part of the show. But new opportunities are knocking on the door and it’s time to explore them.

“I look forward to enjoying the show as a viewer and not having to worry about having said something stupid," alongside a crying with laughter emoji.
