Emily Blunt has responded to reports of a Devil Wears Prada sequel.

The Oppenheimer actor, who played Emily Charlton in the original 2006 film, revealed whether she'd be open to reprising the role if a second film is confirmed.

"There's rumblings, there’s stuff churning around, but I don’t know if I can confirm anything complete," she said during a conversation event at Saudi Arabia's Red Sea Film Festival (per Variety). "We would be all delighted to work together again."

In July, it was reported that original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna had been approached to write a sequel script for Disney, with original film director David Frankel and producer Wendy Finerman in talks to return.

Discussing the success of the original film – also starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci – Blunt recalled being surprised by the response of the film at the time and its enduring appeal.

"I just didn’t know anything back then," she said. "I remember my agent calling me on the opening weekend and saying 'It made this'. I was like 'Is that good?

"When we were filming it, we were weeping with laughter every day," she recalled. "We thought we were making something funny but I didn’t know that it would become this thing that would catch fire in the way that it did. It's quoted to me every week now."

The original film is based on the bestselling 2003 book of the same name written by Lauren Weisberger, which has long been speculated as semi-autobiographical, allegedly based on the author's experience working at a high-profile fashion publication.

The film follows Andie Sachs (Hathaway), a budding journalist who accepts a job at prestigious fashion magazine Runway, working as the assistant for demanding editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Streep).

Blunt plays Emily, Miranda's highly-strung first assistant who helps train Andie for the job.

According to The Fall Guy star, the role "paved the way" for her being seen as a character actor.

"A lot of British people are just subjected to wearing a garnet or a crown at some point," she said of her long run of period dramas prior to Devil Wears Prada.
