Eamonn Holmes supports Ruth Langsford on social media in first public contact after split
Eamonn Holmes has reached out to his estranged wife Ruth Langsford after she visited her ill mother in hospital and shared an update on social media. The couple, who announced the end of their 14-year marriage in June, had their first public contact since they split.
Eamonn, 65, has already moved on and is dating new girlfriend Katie Alexander, who at 43 is 22 years his junior. However, he was among those sending well wishes on Wednesday evening after Ruth, 64, posted a photo from her 93-year old mother Joan's hospital bed - marking his first significant contact with his ex-wife since their split.
In her post, Ruth wrote: "Hospital visit….thank you all so much for your lovely messages and well wishes for my darling Mum. She’ll be in hospital for a bit longer yet, but she’s in pretty good spirits considering and I hope she’ll be home for Christmas." The post received numerous likes from her celebrity friends, including one from Eamonn. J

Joan was rushed to hospital after breaking her pelvis during a fall, with Ruth later confirming the news in an Instagram post on Sunday. She shared: " No dancing in my kitchen peeling the veg for my darling Mum this Christmas….she's had a fall and fractured her pelvis! She's ok…ish, no surgery required thank goodness but she needs rest and time to heal now. She's in hospital at the moment but I'm hoping to get her home soon. This time last year she fell and broke her hip but recovered well…she's a very strong woman so I'm sure she'll recover from this too. Puts life and what's important into perspective eh? Happy Christmas!”
This comes after it was reported that Ruth is said to be keen to speed up her divorce proceedings from Eamonn after parting ways following a 14-year marriage.
And following rumours of wedding bells for Eamonn and his new girlfriend Katie, it has been claimed that he and Ruth are hoping to get their divorce settled fast in the new year. A source told The Sun: "The aim is for Eamonn and Ruth to resolve their divorce as quickly as possible in the New Year. Ruth is keen to stay in their marital home as it is where she is settled. Eamonn on the other hand wants to get out and make a fresh start. They aren't dragging their heels and want this settled and done as quickly as possible."
Eamonn recently admitted he's looking forward to closing off 2024 after a 'tough year'. The GB News presenter, who's been open about his battles with health issues, especially over this last year, recently reflected: "It's been a tough year and I'll be glad to see the back of it."
The Belfast-born star also shared his optimism by adding: "But there are lots of things to be grateful for and I hope that my health improves next year."
