Daniel Craig debuts unrecognisable new look as he shows off long hair

James Bond legend Daniel Craig appeared barely recognisable in newly released shots from the set of the next Knives Out film. Usually seen sporting a short haircut and a suave suit, the 56 year old actor seems to have shaken things up for his role as detective Benoit Blanc.

Instead of his usual trim look, snaps from filming revealed him with shoulder-length grey locks, adding another layer to his character in the upcoming Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

Decked out in a classic beige trench coat, light-blue button-up shirt, blue tie and trousers, he was snapped walking through a park, completing the look with tortoiseshell sunglasses. Craig, who will make his return as Benoit Blanc, has been busy filming alongside co-stars Mila Kunis and Josh O'Connor.

The actor was caught mid-smirk in one shot, as the hair stylists and makeup team bustled around him, attending to his touch-ups between scenes. The film's director, Rian Johnson, took to social media on Monday to let fans know that production for the third instalment has kicked off.

He posted: "Aaaaand we're off! Today is day 1 of shooting on the next Benoit Blanc mystery Wake Up Dead Man - see you on the other side," sharing a black-and-white photo of Daniel looking dapper in a three-piece suit.

Fans were thrilled to see him sporting long locks and quickly took to the comments section to express their excitement. One fan gushed: "The knives out movies are gonna be like mission impossible with tom cruise alternating between long and short hair. I dig it," while another quizzed: "Rian who is that man and where is Benny."

"HIS HAIR WHAT AN ICON," one surprised fan exclaimed, while another wrote: "Blanc with long hair? Feels kinda weird but I like it," accompanied by a side-eye emoji. The star-studded cast of the new film includes Challengers' Josh, Civil War's Cailee Spaeny, Scandal's Kerry Washington, Fatal Attraction's Glenn Close, Avengers' Jeremy Renner, actor Daryl McCormack and Dune's Josh Brolin.

In the first film, renowned private detective Benoit was hired to investigate the mysterious death of author Harlan Thrombey (played by Christopher Plummer). He joined forces with nurse Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas) to unravel the truth in "a twisted case" filled with "filled with angry relatives [and] red herrings".

Benoit returned in the first sequel, which saw him travel to Greece to "peel back the layers of intrigue surrounding" tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) and "an eclectic group of disruptors". The last we saw of Benoit, he was reflecting on the events of the film, and it's now been hinted that the "fiery ending" could set the stage for his "next chapter".
