One of the street style set’s go-to brands, Cult Gaia, has divided fashion followers after releasing a see-through bikini with a ‘censor bar’ to conceal your modesty.

Despite tackling the celebrity-approved sheer trend in one fell swoop, the $590 (approximately £469) two-piece may have taken the SS19 checklist too far.

After advertising the ‘Shalese Bikini’ via Instagram, the Los Angeles based brand was met with criticism from disappointed fans who questioned how practical the must-have would actually be on holiday.

“Adorable, but serious question here, can you swim with it?” one social media user commented.

While another follower added, “Cult Gaia I love you but you can make something cooler.”

“Seriously. It’s April fool, isn’t it?” a third joked.

Part of the brand’s collaboration with Brazilian swimwear designer, Adriana Degreas, the bikini is an “ode to tropical surrealism” with a tortoise shell top and tie-fasten bottoms.

Though some may not see themselves in the risqué swimwear this season, others are readily adding it to their wish list after being inspired by influencers demonstrating how to wear the trend.

“I want this bikini,” one wrote.

While a second shopper simply commented: “Perfection.”

Question is, will you try out the sheer trend this summer in a barely-there bikini?
