A major new comedy club is opening in Leeds city centre.

The Glee will be opening its sixth UK venue on Albion Street and will offer a weekly programme of comedy, live music and entertainment. Established 30 years ago, The Glee is a leading operator of comedy venues in the UK.

It opened its first venue in 1994 in a purpose-built venue outside of London and has since become renowned for quality live comedy alongside live music, cabaret, and special events. Some of the biggest names in comedy and entertainment have regularly graced its stages including Peter Kay, Michael McIntyre, Jo Brand, Lee Evans, Sarah Millican and Jack Whitehall. The Glee also counts Adele and Mumford & Sons among its previous musical guest performers.

The new 400 capacity Leeds venue will offer everything The Glee fans have come to expect from the brand. Work is currently ongoing to transform the new unit. Features will include comfortable reserved theatre-style seating with great stage views, along with excellent lighting and acoustics to create a fantastic atmosphere and entertainment experience.

As well as providing laughs the venue will also boast an extensive food and drink offer including bar classics such as burgers, nachos, and sourdough pizzas, which can all be washed down with cocktail pitchers, beer buckets and a selection of wines.

The Glee founder Mark Tughan said: “It’s no secret that Yorkshire folk like a good laugh and Leeds is a city we’ve long been looking at as a location to further expand The Glee brand, so we are really excited to make this announcement.

“We’ve got some incredible acts lined up and will also be providing a platform for local performers too with plenty of homegrown Yorkshire talent on the bill. Our fit out is progressing well and we can’t wait to open the doors to the new venue and welcome customers to The Glee experience.”

The Glee is due to open this spring. We will bring you further details when we have them.
