Gavin & Stacey star injured and in wheelchair after holiday fall
Gavin & Stacey star Alison Steadman has been forced to cut her holiday short and return home, after a horror fall which left her with multiple broken bones. Alison Steadman, who plays the iconic Pam Shipman in the hit BBC sitcom, returned from Dubai early and was seen at Heathrow Airport, in London, with a broken foot and wrist.
The star, who was enjoying a holiday in Dubai and attending the Desert Stanzas event, tripped on what was described as an uneven concrete walkway, resulting in significant pain and injury.
She has a hairline fracture in her right leg and a broken hand following the fall. Alison was in the UAE for the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, where she is promoting her memoir, Out of Character, with her actor husband Michael Elwyn. Alison told The Mirror: "The path was uneven and I went flying. At the hospital I had tablets for the pain. It's been terrible. I don't think I've broken my leg but I twisted it badly so there could be a hairline fracture." She is due to visit London's Whittington Hospital for more tests now she is back in the UK.
The acclaimed actress has just published her memoirs and unsurprisingly there is a chapter on her role as Pamela Shipman in the hit BBC sitcom. The fall comes just over a month since the final ever episode of Gavin & Stacey aired on Christmas Day 2024.
The episode, where Alison reprised her role as Pam, broke BBC viewing figures records as millions tuned in to see if Nessa and Smithy ever did end up together. Speaking about Gavin & Stacey in her memoir, Alison describes Joanna Page as "perfect" for the role of Stacey and describes Mathew Horne as "my little prince" and says she knew they would work as an onscreen couple.
