In the run up to her boyfriend Boris Johnson being named Prime Minister, and particularly since he entered Number 10, Carrie Symonds has been praised for her stylish outfit choices.

And now we may get another peek at her fashionable - but always occasion-appropriate - attire, when the 31-year-old accompanies the Tory leader to stay with the Queen at Balmoral Castle.

The former Conservative PR, who now works for Bloomberg’s Vibrant Oceans programme, is reported to be the first unmarried partner of a sitting prime minister to be invited to stay at the monarch’s Scottish residence.

A source told The Mail On Sunday that Carrie’s invitation is a sign “the world has changed and progressed”.

It has been tradition for the Queen to host the prime minister for a weekend in September at her summer home in Aberdeenshire, where in recent weeks she has been joined by husband Prince Philip, son Prince Andrew and granddaughter Princess Beatrice among a host of other royals.

Carrie, who lives with Boris, 55, in Downing Street, will join a long line of other halves of prime ministers who have made the trip.

Tony Blair’s wife Cherie famously revealed in her autobiography that her son Leo was conceived at Balmoral in 1998.

In 2011, David Cameron was joined by wife Samantha, and Gordon and Sarah Brown travelled up in 2007.

Carrie’s trip to Balmoral comes as she has been slowly assuming her role of ‘first girlfriend’ since Boris entered Downing Street last month.

On that occasion, she chose to watch his first speech as Prime Minister in a £120 Ghost dress which was widely praised and promptly sold out online within hours.

She also wore a £200 Karen Millen dress to the launch of his leadership campaign, and was pictured this week in a £159 Whistles shirt dress in her first official appearance with Boris at Downing Street.

On Friday, she chose a £225 dress by eco-friendly designer Justine Tabak using sustainable Liberty print to make a speech at Birdfair, an environmental awareness conference, in Rutland.
