Cameraman who found body in search for Michael Mosley breaks down in tears during TV interview

A cameraman who spotted a body in the search for Dr Michael Mosley broke down in tears as he addressed the TV personality’s family.

Michael, 67, who is known for presenting Trust Me I’m a Doctor, was last seen by friends on Wednesday, 5 June, before he went for a walk to the centre of the Greek island of Symi. A body, which has yet to be formally identified, was found beneath a fence that runs around a bar on Agia Marina beach on Sunday, 9 June.

Speaking to Sky News, local cameraman Antonios looked tearful as he revealed how he discovered a body in the search for Michael.

As he opened up about the search, Antonios explained how he’d been on a boat at sea when he saw “something black” that was “outside of the fence at the end of the beach”. However, he revealed that he “wasn’t sure” what it was, so took a photo of the camera screen to zoom in further.

“We took a photo of the screen with an iPhone, we zoomed it in and you can clearly see that it’s a man lying down with his hand on his belly,” he explained.

“The description is exactly the guy we’re looking for. I'm really sorry for the family," reports the Mirror. Overcome with emotion, he continued: "I'm really sorry for the family, I'm sorry that I'm the one to find him. I wish we had better news."

Commenting on the video interview shared by Sky, one X user wrote: "This is a tragic and heartbreaking situation. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Dr. Michael Mosley. We hope that they are able to find some comfort and peace during this difficult time."

Another said: "This is just too sad. I really feel for his family and the people who found him."

Meanwhile, a third commented: "So very sad, seemingly so close to getting help and shelter too at Agia Marina. The dangers of the sun and heat. I have passed out many times. It's dangerous and happens quick without warning... thinking of Michael Mosley's family. Was hoping for a positive outcome."

Since he was reported missing, the search operation for Michael has been widespread and has included police, firefighters with drones, Greek Red Cross workers, divers, a search dog and a helicopter.

On Saturday, 8 June Michael's wife Dr Clare Bailey Mosley said: "It has been three days since Michael left the beach to go for a walk. The longest and most unbearable days for myself and my children.

"The search is ongoing and our family are so incredibly grateful to the people of Symi, the Greek authorities and the British Consulate who are working tirelessly to help find Michael. We will not lose hope."
