Bridget Jones is back! Renée Zellweger to return for 4th movie alongside Netflix's One Day star

Bridget Jones is back, with a fourth film confirmed to be in the making. Renée Zellweger will return as the titular character, Bridget Jones, and there are even more familiar faces joining the cast.

One Day star Leo Woodall (who plays Dexter Mayhew in the series) will be joining the sequel, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.

Leo has become a household name since starring in the Netflix series adapted from the novel by David Nicholls, alongside Ambika Mod, who plays Emma Morley, in One Day.

Leo is rumoured to be playing Bridget's younger love interest in the fourth instalment as she prepares to get back into the dating world.

The film will take its title from the latest Bridget Jones novel, published in 2013 by Helen Fielding. And it sees Bridget in her 50s a mother to two children and widowed following the death of Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) – however, it’s not clear whether this is the plot that the film adaptation will follow.

Also confirmed to be joining Renée and Leo are Emma Thompson (who played Doctor Rawlings in the last film) and 12 Years a Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Hugh Grant, who played Daniel Cleaver in films one and two, is also set to reprise his role. He was absent in the last film, Bridget Jones’ Baby, as Daniel was supposedly killed in a plane crash. But at the end of the film he was confirmed to be alive and well.

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy is set to be released on Valentine’s Day 2025 in the US, but it has not been confirmed when it will debut in the UK.

The last film, Bridget Jones’s Baby saw Bridget pregnant after enjoying liaisons with Mark and Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey).

Unsure about the baby’s paternity, Bridget ended up leading both men to believe they were the father resulting in some entertaining moments for viewers.

In the end, Bridget reunited with her ex-boyfriend Mark and the end scene saw them marry. Whilst Jack was holding Bridget’s baby, William, at the altar – it was confirmed that Mark is William’s dad.

Since the release of the test Bridget Jones film, Renée went on to win her second Academy Award in 2020 for her leading role as famed singer and actress Judy Garland in the biographical film, Judy. Renée’s first win was in 2004 for her supporting role as Ruby Thewes in Cold Mountain.
