Bridgerton star says her kids 'don't care' about Netflix role as she opens up on pregnancy
Adjoa Andoh's children aren't fazed by her fame. The 61 year old actress, known to Netflix viewers worldwide as Lady Danbury in the popular period drama Bridgerton, has three children - Liam, 28, Jesse, 27, with husband Howard Cunnell and Daisy, 33, from a previous relationship.
Despite her global recognition, she insists that her kids see her as just their mum because she was always a working actress before her international success. While appearing on Loose Women, she shared: "They don't care. 'Is there food in the fridge? ' That's all they want to know.
"'Can you put £20 in my account? ' That's what they want. They're really proud of me but they've grown up with it.
"I got my first Equity job and found out I was pregnant with my eldest in the same week so it's been my whole professional life I've had kids."
"So they're just like 'That's what mum does.' It just meant that I didn't go to the sports day, and my packed lunches were rubbish because I didn't have time. All that stuff. I'm just their mum."
Starting her career in theatre, Adjoa then featured in numerous British television shows and films such as Adulthood. However, being part of a global hit like Bridgerton has allowed her to connect with fans around the world.
She said: "It's one of those jobs that has so much love in the room for it. It's amazing to be in something like that. I've been in Warsaw, Johannesburg, I've been in New York. Everywhere I go, the thing I really love about it is that nothing matters other than 'Do you like the show? All right, then we're all here.' That's the focus. It's a joyful thing."
All episodes of the third season of the hit period romantic drama have now been released on Netflix, and focus on the friendship that turns to romance between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). Nicola and Luke have been praised for their romantic and racy love scenes in the episodes, and in an interview with Stylist, the actress confirmed that she requested she would be "very naked" in one particular scene.
“I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included," she said. "There's one scene where I'm very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice. It just felt like the biggest ‘f**k you' to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering."
