Black Doves season two: Everything we know so far
This article contains spoilers for Black Doves season one
If, like us, you've already binge-watched Netflix's new festive spy thriller, Black Doves, starring Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw and Sarah Lancashire, then you'll no doubt be wondering whether a second series is on the cards.
After being released in early December, creator Joe Barton's series quickly climbed the rankings as one of the streaming service's top 10 most-watched shows in 89 countries around the world.
The series is centred on Keira Knightley as undercover 'Black Dove' agent Helen Webb. Married to the UK Defence Secretary, she has been secretly passing on government secrets to the organisation for over a decade but, when her lover, Jason, is murdered and her spy boss Reed (Sarah Lancashire) calls in old friend and professional assassin Sam (Ben Whishaw) to help keep her safe, the duo begin to uncover a huge conspiracy linking London's murky underworld to a potential geopolitical disaster.
It's safe to say that the six-part series ended on a bang, and left us with just as many questions as it answered. So, what can we expect from a second series of Black Doves? Here's everything we know so far about Black Doves season two on Netflix, from the plot and cast to the potential release date...
Will there be a Black Doves season two on Netflix?
First of all, if you're wondering whether there will be a second series of Black Doves, then the answer is yes! Netflix has already renewed the London-based spy thriller for season two, confirming the news via X (formerly Twitter) back in August 2024 months before the first series even landed.

Black Doves season two: Plot
Following the dramatic conclusion of season one, some big questions were answered – namely who was responsible for the death of Helen's lover, Jason (Andrew Koji). But the series ended with plenty of cliff-hangers for the show to delve into in a second series. Here are some of the key questions we've been asking ourselves after watching season one:
Will Helen (Keira Knightley) really be heading to No. 10 Downing Street with her UK Defence Secretary husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan) serving as the next Prime Minister?
Will she keep working for Reed (Sarah Lancashire) as a Black Dove undercover agent?
Will Sam really go and work for former nemesis Hector Newman, following the crime boss' offer at the end of season one?
What repercussions will Sam face after killing Alex Clark (Tracey Ullman) and her son, Trent (Angus Cooper)?
And just who was that mystery woman shown with Reed at the end of season one?
Black Doves season two: Cast
It goes without saying that we can expect to see Keira Knightley (Helen Webb) and Ben Whishaw (Sam) return for a second series, alongside other key characters, including Helen's husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan) and Black Doves spymaster Reed (Sarah Lancashire).
Following the epic finale, we can expect to see the return of many other season 0ne faces, including Sam's 'will they, won't they' ex-partner Michael (Omari Douglas), as well as his likely new boss, Hector Newman (Luther Ford).
Black Doves season two: Release date
Netflix has yet to reveal when Black Doves season two will air, but we're expecting that it'll be coming to our screens no sooner than early 2026 with creator Joe Barton telling The Hollywood Reporter that filming should begin next year. Watch this space for more updates...
