Peter Andre says he has six children in awkward moment with Kate Garraway on GMB

Peter Andre corrected Kate Garraway on Good Morning Britain today after she said he was a dad to five children. He cut in after the host said: "You've got a heck of a busy Christmas, now a father of five." He replied: "Technically six, but go on. I've changed a lot of nappies in my time. Carry on, carry on."

The singer, 51, has children Junior and Princess with ex Katie Price and Theo, Amelia and Arabella with wife Emily. The sixth is thought to have been a reference to Katie's eldest son Harvey, who is the son of footballer Dwight Yorke but whom Peter helped to parent when they were engaged and then married.

He was stepfather to Harvey, who is now 22, and once asked to formally adopt him. Their bond continued long after his 2009 split from and Katie after four years of marriage, with Peter saying in 2017: "Harvey will always be special to me and I just want him to be happy."

He wrote: "He's such a good-hearted boy, I see him a bit more now, which is amazing. He's just the best, I love him. There's always room for Harvey at our house. I always saw him as my own. There's a special place in my heart for him - he's very important to me and he's always welcome."

Peter also made a brief reference to Harvey in his New magazine column this week when he spoke about the possibility of having any more children with wife Emily. Recalling his early days with Katie's son, he said: "I've changed six sets of nappies in my adult life, I'm done."

The singer's public admission that he wanted to adopt Harvey was criticised by Dwight, 53, who said after Pete and Katie's break-up: "Is he prepared to adopt Harvey at this stage? I don’t think so. The onus falls back on the father, which is me in the first place, so that’s why it should not have been mentioned.”

Pete replied, during a now-famous Sky News interview with Kay Burley: "The bottom line is this. I love that child all right, and I don’t care what anybody says, I love that child. I see that child.

"To me, a nice little thank you would be nice instead of telling me. I asked to adopt him because I love him. I didn’t ask to adopt him to be disrespectful. It angers me when people turn around and I get a comment like that.”

Former Manchester United striker Dwight is not thought to be in regular contact with Harvey and Katie has claimed they have only met a handful of times since he was born in 2002. When Harvey was young, Katie went on I'm A Celeb where she met and later fell in love with Peter and they married in 2005.

Asked on GMB today what his plans for the rest of the year were, Peter said he would be with all his children. He explained: "Well this Christmas we're all together, you know, having a laugh. I've got to go see my mum. This is the most important thing, so I'm trying to get that done before the show starts."

Richard cut in saying: "She's not in the best of health, is she?" Peter replied: "She's not great, unfortunately."

After celebrating Christmas in Surrey with Emily and the kids, Peter plans to fly to Australia with his brother to spend some quality time with their parents, the Savvas, who are approaching their 70th wedding anniversary.

Writing in New, he said: "My mum's not very well, and it's really hard being away from her. Then, with a newborn, you feel guilty leaving the baby. But this is so important right now. dad loves sitting, chatting, playing a game of backgammon. I'll cherish every moment with them."
