BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent forced to apologise after guest swears on air
Presenter Sally Nugent apologised on the episode of BBC Breakfast on Tuesday 30 April as a guest swore on live television.
Sally and her co-host Jon Kay were sitting on the red sofa when they introduced their next guests Nicolette Jones and Steve Briggs. The pair were invited on to speak about the late Raymond Briggs - who they both knew and worked with.
Raymond was the author of children’s books, his most notable being The Snowman. Following his death two years ago, an exhibition showcasing his creations is due to open in East Sussex.
The interview got off to a great start, but Sally had to apologise to viewers when one of them swore. Speaking about working with Raymond, Steve said: "He respected the fact that I was good with deadlines.
"I was very good at churning it out and he only had one deadline a year and I had seven, eight a week. And so we kind of had this mutual regard which was great, it was mainly taking the p*** out of each other but he was such great fun, I mean his art history is so much to be proud of, but it's all on show in this show here."
With her guest making an on-air blunder, Sally said: "Apologies if anyone was offended by the choice of language in that interview just a moment ago."
Despite her apology, viewers were unhappy with the language and some went to social media to make their feelings known. One wrote: "Having to explain what 'Taking the p***' means to my two kids as we are watching a segment on Raymond Briggs. Thanks for the swearing, you complete imbecile.”
Another simply added: "Plenty of swearing this morning."
It’s not the first time in April that viewers have been upset with BBC Breakfast, on Tuesday 16 April the show faced a wave of criticism after an interview with former Prime Minister, Liz Truss.
Truss spoke about topics such as smoking where she said: "But we're a free country. We shouldn't be telling people not to smoke," and she further angered viewers when she changed the topic to Donald Trump.
One viewer asked: "Why is Liz Truss getting so much media coverage? We have had a lucky escape with her once." Another wrote: "The question is..... Why are total political failures like Truss being given a soap box to stand on by broadcasting companies?”
