A woman was met with hostility instead of congratulations from her sister after she got engaged.

The recently engaged woman explained in a post on Reddit's popular "Am I the A------?" forum that her older sister became "angry" with her after she announced what was supposed to be happy news.

"My older sister is angry that I am engaged before she is and will be married before she is even though I’ve been dating my boyfriend (now fiancé) for a shorter period of time than she’s been with her boyfriend," the younger sister wrote.

According to the older sister's logic, she has been with her partner for a longer period of time and is ahead in birth order, so she should therefore get to say "I do" first.

The bride-to-be asked Redditors: "AITA (am I the a------) that I don’t think this matters at all?"

She added: "I just don’t understand what I’m supposed to say to this."

In the comments section, Reddit users argued that the younger sister was NTA (not the a------) in this situation because her older sister is being "jealous" and "ridiculous."

"You can not dictate when your boyfriend was going to ask. Nor can you wait around for hers to ask. He may never decide she is the one and you'd be waiting around for years," one person pointed out, to which the original poster replied, "This was kinda what I said."

Someone else commented: "Your sister is probably just upset that you got a ring first. You tell her that it is your relationship, and you and your fiancé are at that point in your relationship where it is time to take it to the next level, so to speak. She probably wants to be there in her relationship but it's not there yet so she's jealous and frustrated."
