Woman Crocheted a Blanket for Her Sister-in-Law. Her Reaction to It Left Her Stunned
A crocheter's handmade blanket gift results into a heated debate after her sister-in-law gives it back demanding perfection
A woman is seeing advice from Redditors after her sister-in-law’s unexpected reaction to a gifted handmade blanket sparked a heated discussion between the two.
The situation began after the woman decided to make a blanket for her sister-in-law, Amanda. ”I didn’t have any other projects on my to-do list so I was happy to make it for her,” the woman explains in a post. The gift seemed like a thoughtful gesture, especially since Amanda had requested specific colors for the blanket.
But, the project took an unexpected turn after Amanda received the gift. While she was initially excited, her enthusiasm quickly turned into criticism. “She said she loved the blanket BUT she couldn’t help but notice some of the little mistakes I’d made along the way,” the crocheter shares.
Amanda pointed out minor errors, such as inconsistent striping and color switches that deviated from the intended pattern.

The woman was taken aback when Amanda handed the blanket back, saying she “couldn’t wait to see the finished project.” When the poster informed her the blanket was finished, Amanda insisted it wasn't complete until it was perfect, suggesting that the errors could be easily corrected.

Amanda’s response didn’t sit well with the poster. “I hate the way perfectionists try to force their quirk onto others,” she writes, reiterating that she made the blanket out of love and in her free time.
In a moment of frustration, the woman decided to take the blanket back for good. She explains her reasoning: “If she thinks me crocheting a whole blanket and making minimal errors is half-hearted, I’d rather just keep the blanket.”
The disagreement left both women upset, with Amanda accusing the poster of being "ridiculous." But, the woman says correcting the mistakes would be just as intense as if she started the project from scratch. “If you know anything about crochet you know that if I made an error on row 36 of a 1115-row blanket… that’s essentially starting over again,” she expresses.

In an update to the Reddit post, the woman said she refuses to “fix” the mistakes. “I’m declining to ‘fix’ the mistakes I made in a blanket that was a gift for someone,” she writes. Many users have sided with the poster, claiming the sister-in-law should be more grateful.
“If she requires perfection, that's pretty incompatible with 'homemade', not to mention SUPER dismissive and presumptuous of her not to prioritize the hard work and hours that went into making it,” writes one user. Another adds, “Your SIL is ungrateful, if you’d crochet me that blanket all i’d see is the love and care you put into it.”
