Ryleigh Paulin's surprise engagement in St. George, UtahA couple's engagement video has gone viral after the bride-to-be had a delightful response to the unfolding proposal.
Shortly after ring shopping together and landing on the perfect ring almost right away, Ryleigh Paulin and her then-boyfriend Brock Ramos decided to take a trip to St. George, Utah, with family and friends at the end of September 2024.
"On our way down, Brock got an email notification on his watch from our jeweler that said the ring is being made and would be ready to pick up by a certain date, but he had his hand covering it so I didn't know what the date was," Paulin tells PEOPLE.
"I got very excited and happy — I was on my way down for a weekend of fun with my family and friends and when I got home I was going to get engaged," she adds.
After a day of activities in St. George, Paulin and Ramos decided to show the rest of their group some houses they had enjoyed looking at when they first started dating, which Paulin remembers as the trip where they shared that they love each other for the first time.
When they arrived in the area, the couple noted the sun setting behind a cliff with "a 360-view of St. George," and decided it would be a nice photo opportunity.
The video that Paulin later posted on TikTok captured what unfolded next.
"When we started walking toward the lot to take the picture, I realized that there was a proposal setup, and we couldn't ruin someone's engagement," Paulin recalls. "I said, "Oh, um, I think someone is getting engaged!" and Brock responded, 'Yeah, I think so too.' "

Ryleigh Paulin's surprise engagement in St. George, Utah"I was so confused as he continued to walk toward it and I genuinely thought he was going to fake propose on someone else's proposal setup," she continues. "I was so lost because he just got the email yesterday that the ring had just started to be made."
Once the couple got closer to the setup, Paulin says, "I saw our faces in the picture frames leading up to the [flower] arch. I then saw my two sisters with their cameras pop out from behind a cliff of rocks. That is when I realized I was the one getting engaged."
Paulin would later find out that Ramos had received the ring shortly after picking it out, and that this "family trip" was planned simply for the proposal.
"My family had decorations and flowers hidden around the house right under my nose, and I was so oblivious I didn't even realize," Paulin tells PEOPLE. "They did such a beautiful job setting it up. Brock wanted to propose on that street of houses that were our favorite because that trip is when our relationship really went to the next level."
