Meghan Markle reportedly picks Ralph & Russo to design wedding dress
Ever since Kensington Palace announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged, rumours as to which designer the former actress will choose for her big day have been rife.
But one couture label continues to crop up as speculation rises.
According to a royal insider, the 36-year-old has chosen a wedding gown by brand Ralph and Russo which is run by husband and wife Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo.
But the news isn’t surprising after she wore a £56,000 sheer gown by the London-based couturier in her engagement photographs.
Other potential contenders for the highly-coveted job included Roland Mouret, Erdem and Alexander McQueen.
Back in February, bets on the designer behind her wedding gown were suspended after Alexander McQueen (the Duchess of Cambridge’s label of choice) became favourite. As a consequence, odds for the brand changed from 16/1 to 8/1 overnight.
“We previously had Ralph and Russo as the 2/1 favourites and there’s also been a lot of talk of Erdem as a big frontrunner,” Betfair spokesperson Katie Baylis revealed in a statement. “However, we’ve now suspended this market after seeing some interesting betting on Alexander McQueen this morning who went from 16/1 to 8/1 in a very short space of time.”
But Ralph and Russo remains the strongest contender and it’s interesting to note, that the fashion house overlooks Buckingham Palace thanks to its eight-storey Mayfair residence. A fitting coincidence, no?
The label would prove a worthy choice for the former actress, as the design duo regularly create custom garments for A-list red carpet events while also remaining first-choice for brides-to-be lured in by their awe-inspiring bridal lines.
When asked for confirmation on the topic, a spokesperson for the brand replied: “We will be politely declining to comment on this topic.”
