A newlywed couple’s Welsh hotel has been heavily praised by guests on a popular Channel 4 show. The Abergwaun Hotel in Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, featured in the latest episode of Four in Bed which aired on Monday evening.

The show sees bed and breakfasts, hotels and glamping sites go head-to-head to be crowned the best of in a week of episodes. The owners rate each other’s establishments and the winners are declared after they have all visited and scored each other in a number of categories. During Monday’s episode, three other couples taking part in the show arrived at the Pembrokeshire hotel and were quick to praise the rooms on offer. One couple described their room as “very white and bright”. Relaxing on the bed, one of the guests said “it’s like lying on a cloud”, while one of the couples looked at each other and said, candidly, “this is going to be hard to beat”. It wasn’t all plain sailing for the Fishguard hotel owners, however, as one of the couples complained of a “badly cracked sink” and noticed a “huge crack in the shower tray”.

Co-owner Dan, a chef by trade, was confident about his breakfast-making skills before the other competitors tried it for themselves the following morning. When they did, one of them said: “The breakfast was superb. I’ve eaten in restaurants all over the world and that’s probably one of the best breakfasts I've ever had”.

While one of the guests said the yoke in her egg wasn’t cooked to her liking, it did not detract from all three couples giving the Abergwaun Hotel high marks when it came to scoring their experience. One of the competitors looked at his partner and said: “I’m totally worried about our breakfast now. This is going to be a hard act to follow.”

The three couples then had to put a secret amount of cash into an envelope which reflected what they believed their stay at the hotel was worth. The amounts each couple paid will be revealed at the end of the competition later this week. However, a clue to what they thought of the Abergwaun Hotel in general was revealed when they were asked to complete a short questionnaire. Under the question "would you stay at this hotel again”, all three couples answered unanimously “yes”.

You can see whether Dan and Lois come out on top overall when the series concludes across the rest of this week on Channel 4 at 5pm.
