The Traitors 'Seer' twist explained as Claudia Winkleman confirms huge shake-up

The Traitors' Claudia Winkleman has shaken things up with a major twist just one day before the gameshow's finale.

During Thursday night's (January 23) episode, the TV host invited the contestants to their 'most important mission' yet.

Explaining the stakes of the game, she said: "Today we will revisit some of the missions you have done but you will face three new challenges. If you complete all of those challenges successfully, you will add an amazing £12,000 to the prize fund."

In true The Traitors fashion, she went on to reveal a massive twist, saying: "But, there's more. This is by far the most important mission you have ever faced. Whoever banks the most gold individually will gain a power more valuable than we have ever seen. They will become The Seer."

The Seer is based on a character from the deduction game Werewolf, which The Traitors borrows its format from.

According to Claudia: "The Seer has the power to know one other player's true identity. The Seer will invite one player this evening to a private face-to-face meeting.

"That player they have chosen will have no choice and must reveal if they are a Faithful or a Traitor. This power could turn the entire game on its head."

After a gruelling day of missions, the group were faced with their penultimate roundtable, where they evicted Traitor Freddie from the castle.

As he exited the game, Francesca was crowned as The Seer. Claudia invited her to a private room, where she was asked to choose whose identify she wants to unveil with her new power.

Frankie then selected Traitor Charlotte and explained her rationale, saying: "In my heart, I hope she's a Faithful. Then I can take a sigh of relief that I know that one person is 100% a Faithful and it was the person I always thought it was."

The last standing Traitor was visibly stunned when Claudia called her name, and admitted in her master interview that she felt "very pinned in a corner".

"But I guess that's the game. I'm the last Traitor standing, everything is at stake. It is literally her word against mine," she added.

The episode came to a close with Charlotte and Francesca ready to face each other.

Elsewhere, in tonight's instalment, newly-recruited Traitor Freddie was banished from the castle. His exit was orchestrated by Charlotte, who intentionally 'murdered' Leanne, knowing that she had a shield protecting her from banishment.

Her plan was to make the only two people who did not know about Leanne's safe status, Freddie and Alexander, appear suspicious.

Charlotte was ultimately successful in making the rest of the contestants question Freddie's faithfulness.

However, Freddie was adamant to prove himself and claimed that Minah, who was banished yesterday, told him about Leanne's shield. The white lie only made him seem guilty to the other Faithfuls and led to them voting him out.

Ahead of the finale, Charlotte remains the only Traitor still in the castle.

The Traitors returns tomorrow at 8.30PM on BBC One and iPlayer
