The Tony Awards 2024 took place on Sunday night, rewarding the best and brightest of Broadway productions during the 2023–2024 season.

The David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City welcomed Oscar and Tony award winner Ariana DeBose as its host for the awards show for the third season running – but there were also plenty of firsts at the event.

The Daniel Aukin-directed production “Stereophonic”, a play set in the ’70s about a fictional band, took home the lion’s share with five Tonys, including best direction and best play.

Plus, “The Outsiders”, a musical co-produced by Angelina Jolie that’s based on the S.E. Hinton novel, scored four wins. Meanwhile, “Merrily We Roll Along”, starring first-time Tony winners Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff, also won four Tonys.

Other first-time winners included Sarah Paulson for “Appropriate”, Jeremy Strong for “An Enemy of the State” and Kecia Lewis for the Alicia Keys-produced musical “Hell’s Kitchen”.
