Eamonn Holmes has candidly opened up about his split from Ruth Langsford, confessing: "I'm not OK. This is not a good time at all."

Speaking to the Mirror at the TRIC Awards, for which OK! are the official media partners, Eamonn shared his feelings on their 14-year marriage coming to an end: "It's too early to say but I hope we can still be friends."

Battling chronic back pain that necessitated a wheelchair at the event, Eamonn admitted he felt like he was on "borrowed time", noting his father's untimely death at 65 from a heart attack in 1991. Now 64, Eamonn has faced several health challenges in recent years, culminating in the announcement of his divorce from Ruth last month.

Despite considering skipping the awards due to intense pain, Eamonn made it with the help of his new high-tech chair. "I wasn't going to come, but I've got this new chair with all these gadgets," he remarked.

His programme, GB News Breakfast, took home the title of Best News Programme, and Eamonn addressed the crowd: "I had an operation a year and a half ago, and two things went wrong so I have two things in my back I don't want. So I'll happily accept this."

Before the ceremony, he had opened up about his struggle with back pain. "I get very resentful that I'm not the way I used to be but I get on with it," he shared.

"I work hard at trying to walk. It's very hard to get through a normal day but I have help from people around me." He had previously expressed gratitude for Ruth's unwavering support amid his health issues.

Last month, they announced their split as a statement read: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."

Eamonn later addressed the split and said: "We'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

Christine McGuinness was spotted supporting Eamonn at the awards ceremony, holding his hand and wrapping an arm around his shoulder as they posed for the camera. Eamonn looked dapper in a black suit, white shirt and blue tie.

He also took to Instagram to share a glimpse of the event, posting a picture from inside the luxurious venue.

"Whatever the results, a nice lunch awaits #Tricawards," he captioned the snap from his table.

It comes after comments from sources close to Eamonn, expressing uncertainty about his ability to attend due to his ongoing back problems. They conveyed that while he has a strong desire to be there, having previously enjoyed the event where he received accolades and caught up with industry pals, his attendance remains uncertain.

"He would like to go but it is in the balance, a lot will depend on how he feels on the day," the source confided to The Mirror.
