On Monday morning, Meghan Markle‘s father, Thomas Markle Snr, gave his first interview since the royal wedding on ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

It has now been reported that the Duchess of Sussex’s dad was reportedly paid £7,500 for the tell-all interview.

In the bizarre chat, 73-year-old Markle spoke about missing his daughters wedding, conversations with Prince Harry about Trump and Brexit, and his staged paparazzi photos controversy.

Thomas Markle also said the Duchess of Sussex broke down in tears when he confessed he would not be attending the wedding during an emotional phone call just days before she was due to walk down the aisle.

The former lighting designer was flown from his home in Mexico to a luxury hotel in California by the TV network where the interview took place.

Meghan and her father’s relationship has been put to the test since the 36-year-old went public with her relationship with Prince Harry.

Following months of being hounded by the paparazzi since his daughter’s newfound fame, Thomas Markle was revealed to have made a deal with them involving staged paparazzi photos.

The Daily Mail revealed that the photos – which included reading articles about Meghan in an Internet Cafe and getting fitted for a suit – were staged, just one week before the royal wedding.

A day later, American celebrity website TMZ reported that he had pulled out of the wedding because of the embarrassment caused by the images.

Speaking of the controversy after allegedly being caught staging photographs with the paparazzi, Mr Markle told Good Morning Britain: “I spoke to them both and I apologised. I realised it was a serious mistake. It’s hard to take it back.”

It has been reported that Harry and Meghan are planning a visit to see Thomas Markle in his hometown in Mexico.
